Yup. Paper welts, phony heels, glued soles and phony stitches.

I have a few pair of AE's but I didn't pay anywhere close to those prices. I usually just buy their factory seconds. I've never noticed anything wrong with any of them.

I got the Higgins Mill seconds a year ago. A dent in the leather near the heel. Whoopee. Looks and feels great

Holding out or the re-release of AE Cronmoks.

Mine are beat to shite but I can’t stop wearing them. They broke my heart when they stopped making them.

Shell Cordovan is tougher than any leather shoe you can get.

They take a long time to break in and last forever.

I wonder how many people griping about quality are buying sight unseen online as opposed to buying at a store where you visually inspect the shoe.

Um, you can get those cronmoks crafted. $125. OR use a top notch cobbler who will make them better than factory.

The last two pair I've purchased were made in Wisconsin.

There are huge differences between Allen Edmonds and AE by Allen Edmonds.

I’m not saying you are buying the latter, just noting. Especially since people are using the abbreviation.

Of course. The ae by Allen Edmonds is made in the DR.

But, even your shoes were assembled in Wisconsin. It’s that trick companies use to get the made in the USA legit.

I bought the last few on their website. They said "handmade in Port Washington, WI" on the description

Which is true.

But that doesn’t mean all parts are made there or in the states.

This is a very common practice. Especially for high end stuff. Gucci, Armani, etc are known for gathering and assembling in China, shipping back the almost finished product to Italy for final touches.

Thus, made in Italy.

It’s not a criticism. Just stating how companies are able to claim this legally.

They make the Road warriors and some of the cheaper brands in the DR. Your regular shoes such as the PA's, Strands, and the boots are made here in USA.

Factory Tour

AE brought in some cobblers, top fans, and a couple of Youtube reviewers and gave them a tour of the factory.

I already said they are assembled here.

That doesn’t change the fact that parts are made in the DR, shipped to Wisconsin, and then assembled.

I’m pretty confident that I’ve been to PW far more times than anybody here. Was a regular occurrence to head to the factory for their sales.

I don't really care about the imported materials. I'm sure there are plenty of countries that produce leather that's as good if not better than us.

Actually, I think it is made here. Sent to DR. Then shipped back.

I didn’t say you should care. Especially not when regarding materials.

But, was simply clarifying between ae and AE. And making sure that hose who are Uber patriotic realize that they aren’t 100% done here.

Which is pretty normal. Like I said, not a criticism. Just noting that made in the USA can be a bit misleading.

Iirc, only Rancourt and Oakstreet are the only 2 that are 100 percent made here.

Their classic shoes are made here. The shells are definitely made here from start to finish as its Horween leather. Watched an interview w CEO recently. The heritage shoes are made here from start to finish. If foreign leather used, it's from Europe.

We are gonna agree to disagree.

Didn’t say foreign materials. American. Shipped to DR. Then back.
