All of a sudden my phone types in some foreign alphabet

I went to send a text just now and while the keyboard is a regular qwerty the letters typed do not correlate. A "t" becomes a droopy-cross-looking thing and some letters are only parts of the new letters, meaning that hitting multiple keys only adds to or changes the existing letter.
I can't figure out a language setting for the keyboard. Has my phone been hacked?
I'm typing this from my laptop.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I am not very technically adept, but I would follow Dorothy's advice. Good luck.

And what really hurts is that johnny and Dorothy are in their 30s. Makes me pretty old.

No, Supersaint was right, I am pretty old, not in my 30s, but not in my 80s either.
And Dorothy was right. I turned it off and back on and the problem went away. I'm really ashamed because I was a huge fan of The IT Crowd.
Side to SuperSaint: I laughed.

Dorothy knows her stuff.
SuperSaint, I chuckled.
