Did one family get 4M and another get 45M?

Maybe he should've learned the Gandhi quote.

Eh, there’s no telling the money they’ve spent in therapy, security, likely having to move, etc. What they’ve spent in the suit itself. And so on.

Yeah, while I find Alex funny, what he did to the Sandy Hook parents was totally reprehensible. But people literally rape kids and don’t have penalties this severe.

As said, it likely ends up less if Texas has a punitive cap. But at the very least it could shut his shite down. Which is should at this point.

Nah, disagree with Gandhi here. You can say something outrageous that ruins everything but it still needs to be said.

Every news agency in the country should be bankrupt with this courts logic
I am squarely in the middle over this. You've got to be an idiot to believe most of the stuff he says. You've got to be the lowest ambulance chasing attorney to get the parents to sue over the nonsense.

With that being said I've seen portions of video where the court was the opposite of the Depp & Rittenhouse courtrooms. My impression is that the judge is a bitch and didn't even try to hide her feminist anti-right bias. I saw Jones attorney state a well reasoned objection because the answer to a question called for hearsay and she replied in the most bitchy way possible. Frankly she's not much better than the judges you see on Court Cam who end up in front of ethics boards and are removed from the bench.

I mean, if convicted they typically serve jail time. Now we can argue that it isn’t nearly enough time, but that’s a legislative law/judicial follow through issue. It shouldn’t lessen the gravity when a defamation suit is actually utilized as it should be.

Again, free speech is still not without consequence. You can be criminally charged for inciting a riot, even if it’s with free speech. Some states have passed laws that restrict how you can speak to certain public servants (like LEOs).

I don’t agree with a lot of those but I think this case is a perfect example of why there should be consequence for free speech when it directly harms others.

Yeah, but under whose standard? If a guy calls a woman a fat pig, and then she goes and kills herself later that night, is that guy responsible for that?

Had a fraternity brother who was pissed his dad showed up piss drunk at his football game embarrassing him, he blows up telling his father to leave and he didn’t want to see him again, and then his father blew his own head off a few hours later. This is the slippery slope, Belle.

He got these parents shot at. They’re literally living in hell after the loss of their child and the harassment (criminal in some cases) they’ve received.
I will ask again: was direct action taken against the harassers? I would guess no because they have no money.

You would still have to meet the rather high bar of defamation. You’d have to prove that a false statement was made (if she’s fat, is it false?), that negligence occurred (was it verbal abuse that occurred over and over again, did she already have a deteriorating mental health, etc.), and that harm was done (maybe).

I don’t see the slippery slope there as none of those situations at face value would meet the standard for a defamation suit.

Yes. Some of them were charged if it reached criminal level of harassment.

Fwiw most people think Sadmann got 50K to 500K in those lawsuits. There was no mention of exorbitant write-downs in earnings calls for those companies. And a six figure settlement is basically a rounding error for those companies.

I believe the remaining lawsuits which were actually contested were thrown out a few weeks ago.

So it was a matter of whether to pay the lawyers X to defend them against Sandmann or to pay the lawyers less money to settle quickly with Sandmann and the total between the legal fees and the Sandmann payout were similar to X.

You see what I’m saying now Belle? And when you say “It’s just Alex Jones.” Ummmm, it didn’t stop with Alex Jones on Twitter. Jordan Peterson and James Lindsey are now permanently banned from Twitter for calling out these child mutilators that butcher children into the lie that they are the opposite sex. They are protecting people I consider every bit as evil as Josef Mengele, and when you speak the truth, they shut you down.

This will not end with Alex Jones here either.

This defamation lawsuit verdict didn’t set any kind of new precedent that hasn’t been there as long as defamation lawsuits have occurred.

45 million dollars for being a lunatic and talking bullshite seems excessive to say the least.

He profited off of the lie. I’m assuming the number was derived from what they reasonably calculated was the amount Jones profited off of his sandy hook “coverage” over the years.

If Jones made 500 million over the years in part because of his sandy hook bs, he should lose all of that which could be attributed to sandy hook.

You do realize what the point of punitive damages is right?
