Its always been this way. Populism rules the South

They are absolutely....I suspect midwest Conservatives in 2023 are also and I know that SW and PNW conservatives are. They love the taste of their own pork, they just do not want you having any....

I'm all for more prisons and we can do it MUCH, MUCH cheaper.

Three hots, a cot and let them bitches rot.

There is NO future in any of this plan for the local Jay Cees and the local GOP. Imagine not blowing taxpayer money on law and order...well, actually, on reacting AFTER a crime has been committed because doing anything to prevent a crime in the first place is too damned hard and it means less government spending....and we cant have none of that foolishness.

The problem is prisons have plenty of non violent offenders that increase crowding. And furthermore, some of the "violent" offenses would be decreased if we weren't hell bent of fighting a failed war on drugs.

Many if not most prisons in the US are managed by private companies owned by small government conservatives. Their P&L statement relies on a steady stream of convictions and ruined lives as a result of being a victim of crime and being convicted of a crime and all of that misery is right up the alley of the christian conservative...they are sick bastards and as they continue to get older and die off the United States is getting better and better with every spade of dirt tossed in one of their numbers faces....

(SIAP) Imagine what Joe Arpaio could do with the money. He could build something that would hold half the state for that amount of money.

And the crazy bastard would then proceed to see to it that half the state wound up in it no matter their guilt or innocence...because that is the end game, fill them up until you achieve utopia. It is never going to work but there is going to be some serious money stolen in the process....

Link this up, Comrade.

Twenty-seven states and the federal government incarcerated 96,370 people in private prisons in 2021, representing 8% of the total state and federal prison population.

Id rather empty prisons of drug criminals, end medical resuscitation and let them die off.

As long as I can shoot violent criminals, Id support your Progressive shite too, and let them out as well..

The population would be much more civil in a decade.

But you people will cry if that happens, so we need mass incarceration for repeat violent criminals.

Those are actually private prisons. Many state and federal prisons are still owned by the state and federal governments but they are managed by privately owned cpmpanies. I never said a thing about private prisons but thank you for adding that problem to the equation, you are correct there are way too many private prisons also...
