Every musician that is selected to join one of the Five premier services bands enters as a E6.

" Each of the nation’s five service branches has a flagship band, four of them — the Marine Band (“The President’s Own”), the Army Band (“Pershing’s Own”), the Navy Band and the Air Force Band — based in Washington. A musician who wins an audition with one of the premier bands enters the service at the military pay grade of E6"

I guess you can get caught in the weeds on this and let it bother you how she got her advancement. However, let's not lose sight of the fact a 19 year old chose to serve her country over possible stardom and riches.
Is her service the same as most? No, but still a choice to put on the uniform vs costumes, riches, and fame.
Even if it turns out to be for a short term it is still a better choice then many would make in the same situation.

I don't have an issue with this. it's just for pay purposes, she won't ever lead anyone. All branches do this for choir, band, medical etc. where they have to compete for their services with civilian employers.

I remember checking into the Osan Air Base hotel while TDY, and found out the uniformed airman that was checking us in was an MOS in the USAF.
Services never wear a uniform unless they are behind the grill or sometimes while working at the gym.
Polo shirt and name tape.

She skipped out on "being a star" to join the airforce and joined the choir. Auto promoted to tech Sargent. Nice....

guess the bottom line is E-6 doesn't mean the same as it does in the Army or Navy
All of the special DC bands are E6 on arrival

Marine Band isn't full of teeny boppers.
They are audition based
