In person interviews. Should end this issue for you

“ That's what Bobby Jindal did.”
Jindal could have been the greatest Governor we ever had by far. His downfall was his Chief of Staff, Timmy Teepell, who was very much a white guy. Teepell was also an oxygen thief.

AI is pretty shitty at doing data stuff, you actually have to understand the data before you can just code crap. We've been trying to use it for over a year now, outside of syntax help it's garbage.
Pretty much

Why do you think it's a waste of time to actually evaluate the people who want you to hire them?

Corporate bullshite gets in the way of that. I have people from 5 states and 4 different countries reporting to me. HR said the company will only facilitate an in person interview (company paid) if they make it through the first round of interviews. If the candidate is willing to pay for their own travel we can do it.

Last opening we went through 40 candidates before we found one because of lying arse resumes. That's at least 40 hours of interviews to find one person. Yeah that's a lot of wasted time.

I'm not arguing that it's a pain in the arse and a lot of time, but the effort isn't wasted if you use it to find a good candidate. Naturally, if you can clean out the garbage quickly somehow before you start, it's much more efficient, but in the end you gotta do what you gotta do to get the hiring job done.
ETA: Of course, as mentioned above, if your effort to clean out the garbage involves simply discarding resumes for not having the correct sequence of buzzwords, now THAT is wasting time and effort as well as biasing the outcome toward check-box checkers instead of genuinely competent and flexible, creative workers.
Also a little advice for free -- evaluate your workers at review time based on how well they work, not how well they game their days to meet stupid metrics and KPIs. If you can't figure out whether they are good workers or not without irrelevant checkboxes, it's you who needs to be downgraded, not them.

Oh for sure, I'm not disagreeing with you there. The thing is you used to be able to weed out 25-40% of people based on resume alone.
With this AI shite, everyone's resume looks amazing, exactly what you want. Doesn't matter if they have 2 years or 10 years experience. So you have to interview to weed them out, and that's even more time.
Again, 380 people have applied in 5 days to this position. The last opening was over 1k applicants, the only thing I can weed out on is H1B.

WTF does that have to do with hiring for a position? I haven't said anything about reviewing performance and buzz words or anything. If anything at all, I'm wanting to reject resumes because they are littered with AI buzzwords that I know are BS.
