You can thank the UAW for that.
Any Big 3 plants in the US/Canada have to have union representation per the contract.
And the UAW workers can thank the UAW leaders that supported a president that promotes manufacturing leaving the US.
Union workers can be some of the dumbest frickers around. Vote against their own best interests continually because their leadership tells them to.

Not only are those companies building great cars these days, but they are doing it in factories in the southern US. All while GM and Ford are outsourcing everything to Mexico and China.
There's something these have (or don't have, rather) in common that weighs down Ford, GM, and Chrysler: the UAW.
But you're right. Mercedes is (quietly?) building a HUGE battery plant in Woodstock, AL not far from it's Vance assembly facility.
