Adventure Race GPS tracker - Suggestions on app?

My friends and I have been doing these races for a few years. Sometimes there is a set course and check points for the running/biking/canoeing portions and sometimes its just an all out scavenger hunt for the checkpoints.
I am looking for an android app you would suggest to track and save the race stats, and I don't mind paying for an app if its that much better than a free one.

Have you tried Endomoto? It keeps GPS data and breaks it up into laps, different speeds and such. You can also set to running, swimming, ect.

Id like one that keeps tracking/running in the background when im using the phone for other things
Some reviews talk about it losing you or stopping the tracking if you switch to other apps.
