I don't think people that are typecast should count here. That's just a symptom of a previous role they can't beat.

i.e. Harry Potter, Screech, etc.

Josh Hartnett is the best one in this thread. He's been solid in several genres.

Sure he didn't turn into an A-Lister, but he has by all accounts had a successful acting career. At Comic Con, save for maybe William Shatner and Stan Lee, no one is more popular there than Mark Hamill. More people there want to meet Hamill than RDJ. The guy has had his hand in basically everything pop culture but Lord of the Rings.
