AC frozen question. Low or ran too long?

So my wife turned the AC on like 66 and then left and it ran it's arse off all day.
Come home from a turnaround and it's frozen. Defrosting now.
Did it freeze because it ran too long?
Is it low on freon?
Is it just a bit low and running it like it did exasperated the low freon?
I did have to add a little like 3 years ago. It's been running great. Thanks

You’re probably low on thermostat fluid.

Coil leak. Probably no refrigerant in it.

It could be because of a dirty filter or low freon

Dirty filter = restricted air flow = frozen A/C if bad enough.
Not 100% sure but that may be your problem.

99% chance it is low on Freon....

I'll get it checked. It's been running so well until this shite is why I questioned any other possibilities.
Thanks

I'd let it thaw out. Unless you live on the equator the weather is not warm enough that you cannot handle a day without an A/C. That is mostly because freon is through the roof.

turn the fan on with the thermostat up high to thaw the unit out quickly. then you may be able to get some limited cooling out of it to get you through the night. don't just let it run in a frozen up state, though.
hell of a thing to come home to during a turnaround...
