Audi is the worst car Ive ever replaced timing chain on. A timing job literally totals a lot of Audis due to cost. Multiple chains, tensioners and guides. Can easily be $6k-$8k to replace.
I know a guy in Wyoming that spent the winter doing that to his wifes car, and a bunch of other crap while he was in there.
He put a lot of pics up on FB.
frick that. Sideways. With a 2x4.

Ferrari also used to build engines with the head bolted directly to the block with no gasket.
Yeah, back before boost and insane cylinder pressures and massive thermal issues to deal with, in mass production. Race engines are a different animal altogether.

My only fear is that i'll miss that V-8 sound
You will, there is just no way around it. Outside of a GT3, there isn't a 911 with a sexy exhaust note now. You will likely start looking for a low restriction cat-back system and high flow cats, unless you are willing to drive around with a CEL on a 6 figure car, if you are then you will consider test pipes (cat bypass).
Despite the fact, you won't go tunnel hunting in a 911 the rest of the car makes up for it. There is a very short list of cars I think every car enthusiast that can own must own in their life and the 911 is at the top of the list. There is a significant advantage to putting tons of effort into sportscar racing for decades and only supporting or campaigning cars that share much of the mechanicals with the showroom cars.

This is the generic Desmo set up Ducati has been using for decades.

I'm sure I won't, but I loved firing up that Jag in the garage and watching women and children cover their ears

I'm pretty immature, tbh
