How much do braces cost these days?

I received a quote for about $6k for my son. Dental insurance will cover $1k of that. Should I look around for a second and third estimate?

Ortho also recommended I get Invisalign. (I had braces as a teen. They straightened my teeth but apparently didn't correct my bite [open bite, cross bite], which the ortho says is causing some recession.) Price and insurance will roughly be the same. Does this seem like a likely cause and fix?

Additionally, has anyone successfully negotiated with an ortho to lower the price (multiple referrals, paying in cash, etc.)?

You could save a lot of money by moving to the UK.

6k is about right. I got quoted 5k about two years ago.

I went with Invisalign. I’d only recommend that if you’ve got a great relationship with your dentist/ortho. Mine was awesome but she went above and beyond and really made the results better than they would have been if she just let Invisalign handle everything.

Ask for a discount. They were doing an arbitrary “feb 29” discount and took $1k off. So there’s definitely discounts to be had.
