To be fair, it sounds like the couple are not customers and the allegation is they threatened the business with bad reviews for not sharing information that was between the business and the owner of the home that contracted the services.

No saint,

They posted about the rudeness of the secretary they interacted with. I don’t think that rises to “incredibly shitty” and even if it does a 6 figure lawsuit outweighs it by a lot IMO.

This of course assumes that the “customer” is accurate in portraying her attitude and not just calling her rude because she would not disclose what she wanted.

As a small business, a few folks trying to bully you can have huge impact on your revenues.

Is that the case here? I’m not sure but if it is - it should come with consequences beyond just a shoulder shrug

Every time you look at reviews of any repair company, restaurant, etc. there will always be some 'Karen' that gives a scathing, 1 star review that may be totally out of line with the other reviews. I see this all the time, you take it with a grain of salt, unless half the reviews are negative.
But as crazy as the lawsuit is, with the insane judges out there today, who knows what the outcome can be...
crazy,

No saint,

Even if I agreed with you that there should be a consequence to leaving negative reviews, I can’t agree with a lawsuit asking for $112k as a proportional response.

Unless the conversation was recorded or the review is mischaracterized in the article, the lawsuit is frivolous and intended to frighten them into pulling it down. There's no way to prove that it didn't happen, so there's no way to win a defamation lawsuit. Thanks for playing.

Yea- I wasn’t so much arguing $112k is fair and proportional. I wasn’t even saying consequence should be levied in this case.

I was just saying that going to a public forum to post about a business with an intentionally inaccurate review should have serious consequences. Culturally this is not something we see discussed and has real consequences for business owners.

This may or may not be the case here. Im not taking either side at its word.

Roofer will struggle to prove these damages.

This couple will probably just file Ch.7.
