Ding ding ding. Otherwise they'll just start classifying other things as hate speech.

This. Exactly this. Dissidence will be impossible if "hate speech" is made real and prosecuted. Look at England-- they actually could not enforce their borders without accusations of "Islamophobia"... making a political position supporting sovereignty and denouncing Eurocentric Socialism (the E.U.) to be impossible. And yet, by National Referendum the people rejected this nonsense. Now they have Brexit (the will of the British electorate is being actively subverted at every turn, but that is another discussion...).

This is only one example. It can be applied to almost any political position to silence (or completely outlaw) opposition on the basis of "offensive, dangerous, divisive, or hateful" speech. This idea is un-American. Regardless of whether you are left or right on the political spectrum, this position is absolutely anti-thetical to free values.

All speech is free to the free man. Else one is not free at all.

Love him or hate him, but like DL Hughley said in one of his standups. I am paraphrasing, just because I don't know exactly how he phrased it, but it pretty much said "having free speech means people are going to say some shite you don't like". And pretty much said if you don't like what they are saying don't listen.

I didn't read this whole thread, but why has it become a discussion about political parties and what side does what?

Both parties are just a like. They like free speech until it doesn't play in their favor. Just like everything else. That's just human nature.

If people want to hold a gathering and get up and sound like idiots, then god bless em.

If someone doesn't like or accept you because of who you are, does it really matter? If that person can't benefit you in any way, does it really matter what they think? That's what people need to learn. You give people power if you allow them to have power. If hate speech isn't protected, it only makes those groups find ways to get their message out. People just need to chill.

I agree with you. Please understand that these exact words you typed are yet another reason why "hate speech" (which is really just speech one does not subjectively agree with) is not a Constitutionally enforceable idea.

I also agree about the partisan nature of US politics. However, one side has recently come out in favor of exterminating term infants. As a doctor, I cannot any longer conscience remaining an independent voter on this subject. Democrats no longer get to play the "everyone sucks" game. If you take this position: own it and let us debate.

The problem is the definition of hate speech.

Is calling someone a classic racial slur hate speech? Yes.

Is saying “I like Trump” hate speech?
To them, yeah. It’s punishable by death if they had it their way.

Say what you want. They all play the same game. Lies and deception for power and influence. Tale as old as time.

college students today are idiots. They are told what to do, what to think, and how to react. They are shells of previous free thinkers.

Yes. No speech is forbidden speech because there is no such thing as forbidden speech.

Do not concede this "hate speech" newspeak nonsense. There is no such thing in a world of truly free speech.

You just may dislike the contents/message but that is meaningless. Stop. Limitations on freedom erode freedom.

Limits erode by definition.

Stop.

fricking PC SJW. I'm against the act but if the was ever reason to support it, that entire generation should have been aborted. Late Gen X here and my kids are being raised NOT to follow the millenial SJW dipshits who have an overinflated opinion of themselves.
