I would gladly leave New York making $300k there to go to Denver and make $180k.

I have already done this, between a stint in jail and failing health I have had to take a job at a fraction of what I made before. I do like my new job but it is a struggle to make it financially, it will all work out I don't have to travel anymore.

I would do the duffle bag drag and find employment elsewhere.

If you don't hate your job, not sure why you'd do this.
I've done it before. Switching industries and taking a low paying job, banking on moving up the ranks within a few years (it worked).

cool thing about my job is I can commute to/from work and live where I want, commuting can be like a second job though

Doesn't sound like that pay cut was voluntary

No.
While I am not all that excited about where I live.....I just don't like my job that much.

OK. Assuming you don't hate your job, could you keep the same job and move to any location in the US for a 40% pay cut?
this doesn't change much for me...
typically, places that are very nice to live are also very high in cost of living...so taking a 40% paycut to move somewhere with a much higher cost of living would certainly not do it for me...
I am of the belief that I will bust arse and do what ever it takes until retirement, and then I can live where I want and enjoy life...

I'd actually refuse to move unless I was given a raise of a similar figure. Not that I like it here, but I have too many ties here to uproot. Not an OT Baller, unfortunately, so the cut would decrease quality of life too dramatically.

With my current pay, probably not, but if I was making a lot, I'd consider it and think through the options.

If a man is going to work, it would be doing him and his family a disservice not to maximize income.
I want my kids going to the best private school. Enjoying new clothes. Having the best I can give.
No way I'm sacrificing that for "happiness". That's for wives and children. It's just selfish.

I seriously doubt most of the OT Ballers are really OT Ballers.

What makes an OT baller?

No it wasn't voluntary but I have to live with it just the same. I can get back into what I was doing before eventually if my health will allow it.

good question
I'd assume >200k annual income

Which is why they are called OT Ballers and not just ballers.
