A 5 hour train ride with strangers to replace a 2 hour car ride in private

The fact is that I just took a train from New Orleans to Chicago (City of New Orleans) for a 4 day weekend, and then took a train (Empire Builder) over to Idaho for a couple of weeks. It was awesome. As un-American as it may sound, I'm sick to death of driving. If I never had to have a car again, I'd be just fine with that.
I go back and forth on that. When my son was 8 mos old and we went on a road trip, I put wife and son on a plan and drove 28 hours with just me and the dogs making 90mph tracks across west texas. We only stopped a few times for green chile-oriented food and it was a glorious time.
Other days I can't be bothered to drive to a meeting 3-4 hours away and I do a zoom or fly.
With regard to Amtrak overnight, I've done a few. When I was younger I rode coach to save money on ski trips and it sucked by you get there at 1/3 price of a plane ticket. Occasionally I do this now but I pony up for a room, which can be relaxing if I have nowhere to be for a few days. I read a paper back and have some scotch. It's great. But bewteen the family and job that "space out for three days" thing is very rare.
At this point I'd rather get where I'm going and have an extra night or two there, or get home a day early.
