You probably have to win 8 of your last 9 to realistically make the playoffs

You aren't going to. So the logical thing to do would be start selling whatever few assets you have, don't make it obvious that you are not trying to win, but don't try that hard to win.
But we 100% will not do that, and even when we are out of it, we will win some games we shouldn't.
