Just thought it was interesting that the league is saying it should have been Saints ball

You have to be a pretty massive homer to buy the NFL line here...a properly officiated game would have allowed the play to continue without a whistle. If the roles were reversed, Saints fans would be livid.

That early whistle cost the Lions seven points.

Likely...whistle or not, only Meachem was in a position to recover the ball.

Your thoughts...Do the Saints win if Detroit scores a TD on that fumble?

Probably. The Lions would have had to cash-in on one of those dropped INTs to win the game. That was their blown opportunity.

Ugh I'm sick and tired of hearing about their dropped INTs. 2 of them were on the same possession and any one of them would have been sensational plays. Not exactly what I would call a drop. One of them the guy fully extended and barely got a fingertip on it.

Doesn't mean they didn't happen...and I completely disagree they would have been "sensational".

That said, if you want to win a road playoff game you have to make plays. They didn't and I admitted as much.

This was a huge play at the time which extended the Saints long drive to take control of the game.

Peter King says another gaffe by the officials.

quote:

Brees, on a 4th-and-a-foot call, leaped over the line, stuck the ball out long enough to get the ball past the first-down marker, then pulled it back as he was swarmed by the Lions. Looked like he voluntarily pulled it back, which, of course, would have meant he didn't have the forward progress for the first down. But the officials on the field gave him forward progress.

Is he right?

I think because he is a QB that rule is a little different. He jumped put the ball passed the first down and then gave himself up. At least that is how I think the rule goes. I mean if a player is being tackled and stretches the ball out passed the first down he is down where the ball is. I may be completely wrong though.
