And repeatedly failed drug tests. And repeatedly showed that he thought he deserved special treatment (which of course he got).

Lots of RP hate on this board. You people act like the kid was charged with double manslaughter. The kid used a fake ID, some funny money, and made a racist joke in a restaurant. He has also shown a lot of character by turning things around at J-State.

in football speak, this IS double manslaughter.

There have been a lot of excellent football players that have had long careers in the NFL with worse backgrounds than this.

The bottom line is, he's gone 2 years with no significant incidents and has played as well at the QB position at that level as anyone else could. He deserves a shot. I wouldn't send him to f'king Oakland, but he very well could flourish under the tutelage of a Drew Brees.

FWIW, there are a lot of young QB's that could flourish under Brees' tutelage.

So, frick Perilloux, I'll take someone intelligent thanks.

I like RP and hope he gets a shot in the NFL.

But the Saints don't need to waste a draft pick, and don't need a rookie backup QB to worry about right now.

Despite the SB, we still have holes to fill and we don't need to waste resources(draft picks, cap space) on a player that wouldn't even see the field for the next 6-8 years

True. But he will have a better shot in a state other than Louisiana or even Texas. ANd this has nothing to do with any RP hate.

It worries me when criticism is called "hate" because of the totalitarian attacks on free speech in our world today.

YES...

Guys like RP are a problem, and they tend to infect teams rather than bring something to the team. Talented? Absolutely, but it takes more than just talent in the NFL, a lot more.

Link to the last time a rookie bench player "infected" a team? A Super Bowl team at that?
