I think this is the epitome of that fabled “one year prove it deal”, and allows us to move on easily. But what if the unthinkable happens and we want to keep him? What happens then?

He’ll know who his daddy is if Sean makes him into something.

If Brees doesn't get injured again do you think Winston gets much of a chance to prove it? I doubt we would have seen much of Teddy last year had Brees not been out.

I think this is more of a seasoned (in division nonetheless) backup down the stretch. We could’ve done worse on a backup, certainly.

jameis doesn’t need to start in order to prove he’s worth keeping. What I’m asking is if we want him to stay how do we do that. He’ll be a FA and we can either match or better any other offers or let him go?

You're right, he’s not worth keeping right now.

I like the deal.

I don't think Jameis is a bad dude, he is just a dipshit at times. Cam would have been a different story.

Sign him for one year. Let Payton do his magic. If after 1 year, it looks like Jameis has mended his ways and it looks like he might be a good fit, then you re-sign him.

If he proves that his case of the dipshits is incurable, then you cut bait and move on.

I think the whole thing is very low-risk with a potential of high reward. When dude isn't throwing it to the other team, he is a pretty good QB. Maybe Sean can fix that.

Basically, we are ahead in 2021 FA. CSP has a year to evaluate and see if he can learn and improve. If he can, we offer him a starting QB contract. If not, we let him walk. But we will know what he can and can’t do.

Other teams will be guessing/speculating.

And we get a back up with starting experience for a year.

Winston is way better than Teddy. I think he would start after this season unless the Saints don’t think they can fix him.

If Payton likes what he sees, they will bring Jameis back and make him or Taysom earn it.

This exactly. If Payton doesn’t think there’s anything there, he walks. If Payton sees something in him he likes, he will be here and who knows, the gamble might pay off.

If we keep him for a year and teams don’t see him play... they may forget how terrible he can be. Some team may give us something worthwhile for him. Maybe Payton and Brees can turn him around??? I don’t see it but, what if?? The guy is only 26 and super talented physically.

We just need him to tell us Bruce Arians‘ schemes so we can compete against TB and Gronk
