So I guess getting Jonathan Sullivan in the top 5 a few years ago worked out really well....

The logic is that the players are getting paid a shite load of money to compete and play.

We understand the players wanting to win. Why didn't they play 2nd string then?

That they get a high draft pick? That doesn't guarantee that the players will be any better than someone picked in the second round.

It certainly helps to pick 5+ spots earlier every round wouldn't you say? You have a better chance.

Are you saying we tank every season and just pick early every year?

The Raiders and Patriots are proof that the draft isn't exactly a lock that if you draft early you get better players.

Are you serious with this question?

This one season. This was a lost season once they shite the bed against the Panthers and Falcons at home. For all the super fans who cared that they won, why didn't the Saints give a frick when they could be going to the playoffs had they just won one of those games? Instead, they lost both and there is no playoffs this year.

Winning game #7 did nothing for the franchise. Nobody wanted this scenario. Your question makes no sense as we would all rather the Saints in the playoffs. But since they suck this year, why not get as high a draft pick as possible?

The point of the game is to win.

And the players and coaches playing for their futures. Tank will never be mentioned by coaches or players in an NFL locker room.

Because they have that mindset, I have no reason to root against the team. I want what they want. And they want to win.

It's that easy to me. I get it if you're of the opposite opinion. I'm not going to call you a non true fan.

Good enough reasoning for me, I just didn't like seeing a bunch of people post acting like they were true fans by wanting the Saints to win and people who wanted a higher draft pick weren't.

shite, I wanted the Saints to win every game this year. They sucked. This win did nothing for them at all as far as a franchise is concerned. But for the players and coaches, a win is a win. I would rather have seen the backups get the win if they were going to win anyway.

the fact of the matter is that the long play here was to minimize risk in a meaningless game...sit the starters and tell them to go out and win

if they do, great
If they don't then there is a benefit to the team

no one is being asked to throw a game in that scenario. They took the short play which is their prerogative but it was the wrong play in any logical measurement of risk/reward

Exactly.

Yep. I want the Saints to always win, but here there was no logic to it. It was irrational to want the Saints to win to feel good. Those fans will feel it again when we're picking 13/14 in the draft. This short lived feeling of happiness from a meaningless win won't compare to watching 7 rounds in the NFL draft knowing the Saints should be picking 5+ spots higher.

Hey sho nuff. So you are suggesting that just because I haven't been a member on this board as long as you that I don't know what I'm talking about? Well, I have been a season ticket holder since 1998 which is more than I can probany say for your little bitch arse. Bottom line is that the players and coaches play to win, not to tank for a higher draft pick which is exactly what they did. If you want to go toe to toe, bring in on little man..

I said nothing of the sort. You said this board doesn't need my negativity and I said you haven't posted but 16 times in a year and a half on this board so how would you know anything about it?

As I said before, go frick yourself.

Because the players are playing for their fricking job. It's a moot point. As a fan, I hoped we lost.

We've been clear we understand why the players have. In that case, why not play the backups then? See what they have and play for their job.

No doubt. The thread was because some were acting like you were only a true fan if you wanted the Saints to win a meaningless game today. I thought the true fans were thinking long term and wanted higher draft picks every round. Most agreed with me. Some didn't. It doesn't matter, like you said it's done.

I think the bigger issue here is that both with the saints and the pelicans the front office/ownership seems to have no regard for opportunity cost

play the starters in a meaningless game? Sure!

trade up in the first round and/or trade away first round picks? go go go!

sign veteran players to huge money when lower cost options are available? Why not!

this management of both teams is short sighted and hard headed

I bet this sounded a lot better in your head

Yes, yes you do. I want the Saints to do well. The Saints did not this year. At this point, it was try to make lemonade out of lemons and get a higher draft pick. OR, at least start the 2nd stringers to see what they can do. Instead, they didn't do anything worthy today. This isn't negative talk, it's realistic talk, but you're too stupid to realize this.

I guess in your mind, a 3 point win over a 2 win team was so worth a 7-9 season and drafting 5 spots lower every round

Winning today was important because today, Tampa Bay reminded me of pre 1986 Saints and I never want to go back to that haplessness.
