Jones also had his "worst" game against us last year minus the TD

he played in 3 or 4 games

580 yards in less than 5 games...let's just say I'm on the "let's pay special attention to JJ" bandwagon

jones was our biggest problem against them in week 1. 76 yards and a TD, while matt ryan was given no time to throw and getting sacked non stop. Take him out and it would've been a route

Yeah I was going to make a Jenkins/Harper joke but we did have Vaccaro.

I did put worst in quotes for 2 reasons, one being that he only played 5 games and the other being that it was still a good game.

BUT, Lewis was pretty much manned up on him one on one with little help that whole game, unless memory fails me and it was White he was on. It was a whole year ago and if that was the case he practically shut White down.

It was actually Douglas that caused us some issues(and almost the game) with 93 yards and a 23.3 ypc with a long of 50.

My point was that I don't think Lewis needs help on him the whole game(not saying he needs no help) and if we completely take White and Douglas out of the game then their passing game will be almost nada.

And on Ryan being sacked nonstop, that wasn't really the case in the first game. We had 3 sacks and 6 QB hits, and while that is very good it is far from nonstop.

Either way, without Tony we can put Vaccaro on someone else and pretty much take them out, and put Lewis on either White or Jones and make them more or less a non factor. Roll the coverage to the other guy and their passing game is pretty much dump offs to backs.

oh I saw them, that's why I had the

but I want to make it clear he had his way with our secondary, ryan just didn't have time

hyperbole but ryan was constantly under pressure, we were getting to him. That first quarter, no...2nd quarter on we were getting to him a lot

Yeah I just checked and saw we had 21 hurries in game one.

Game 2 was a little better. 6 sacks with 5 hits(game 1 had 5 hits according to PFF instead of espn's 6), and 16 hurries. 5 less hurries but 3 more sacks.

I remember us getting to him in the first game but I didn't realize it was to the level of the second game. Wow.

in the second game our offense was just stinking up the place, we haven't had great in game tempo, and there has been long dry runs...even MIA and ARZ games, we smoked them, but it took longer than it should have to get there

08-11, we were waaay better at consistency. In 09 I feel like we scored on every opening drive, same for 08 really

I'd be more worried about Jones near the line of scrimmage. With his Athleticism having him catch those quick slants, bubble screens, and receiving the ball on a sweep we would have to be solid in our tackling.

Of the two strategies which do you think is best: give help on Jones and go man to man with Douglas and White with minimal help and make the lesser of the receivers try and beat you, or try to give help on Douglas and White essentially shutting them down completely and hoping Lewis can do well enough against Jones with minimal help?

Yeah that was kind of my point. You can try to contain Jones with doubles and leave it open for everyone else, or you can pretty much shut down the other guys and hope Lewis can still contain Jones alone.

Either way I like our chances without Tony to worry about and better safety play. As long as we keep the backs from breaking out we should be good.

I have no clue

I just know jones over anyone else should be the focal point for the defense

If the defense can shut down the TE and the running game, then they can pick their poison at that point. Force just one player to beat you in Jones, or hope that White is over the hill and Douglas isn't good enough to beat you.

I expect to see a lot of 3 WR sets with Roddy in the slot acting as the safety valve. I am hoping that Harry showed last year that he has to be somewhat respected as a WR which should leave the middle open for Roddy.
