why were saints focused on getting the ball to WR #17?

i think his name was perry or something, but it seemed as though he was our key to victory for PC if he was the focus of our game plan and used olave as a decoy to get #17 open on our first couple of possessions
was there an injury this week i didnt know about?
or did Pete outsmart himself again buy taking our best playmakers out of the gameplan and trying to force it to an unknown player?
