1st and 2nd round players that the Saints drafted currently on roster and are contributors (in alphabetical order):
1. Stephone Anthony (starter)
2. Brandin Cooks (starter)
3. Mark Ingram (starter)
4. Cameron Jordan (starter)
5. Hau'oli Kikaha (starter)
6. Andrus Peat (backup/possible starter)
7. Kenny Vacarro (starter)
3rd-7th round players that the Saints drafted in the 3rd-7th rounds currently on roster who are contributors (in alphabetical order):
1. Terron Armstead (starter)
2. Tyeler Davison (backup)
3. John Jenkins (occasional starter)
4. Thomas Morstead (special teams)
5. Marcus Murphy (special teams)
6. Zach Strief (starter)
7. Damian Swann (backup)
Other 3rd-7th players on the team:
1. Davis Tull (injured)
2. P.J. Williams (injured)
Players who were undrafted free agents and who contribute, either from the Saints or other teams:
1. Travaris Cadet (backup/special teams)
2. Brandon Coleman (backup)
3. Brian Dixon (backup/special teams)
4. Kasim Edebali (backup)
5. Josh Hill (backup)
6. Austin Johnson (backup but only true FB)
7. Tim Lelito (occasional starter, possible 2016 starter)
8. Bobby Richardson (started 11 games last year)
9. Willie Snead (probable 2016 starter)
Other players currently on Saints roster who were flat-out rejects, busts from other teams, or weren't in the NFL before the Saints signed him (in alphabetical order):
1. Delvin Breaux (CFL, starter)
2. Kai Forbath (Redskins reject, special teams)
3. Obum Gwachum (Seahawks reject, backup)
4. Erik Harris (CFL, Delvin Breaux's teammate, unknown)
5. Tim Hightower (out of NFL, backup)
6. Michael Hoomanawauni (Hicks dump trade from Patriots, possible starter/FB)
7. Senio Kelemente (Cardinals reject, possible 2016 starter)
8. Michael Mauti (Vikings reject, backup, special teams)
9. Luke McCown (journeyman, backup)
10. Jamarca Sanford (Redskins reject, backup)
11. Josh Scobee (Steelers reject, special teams)
12. Kyle Wilson (Jets bust, backup)
This just illustrates what we all already know: The Saints don't draft shite past the 2nd round. They do better with undrafted free agents than they do with 3rd-day picks.
And if you bring up Colston and Evans being 3rd-7th players, you can also almost cancel them out with other former Saints like Pierre Thomas and Lance Moore. I'm more interested in following their UDFA signings than watching the 3rd day.

Evans
Carl Nicks
3 future Saint HOF'ers
Kenny Stills
Jermon Bushrod
Zach Strief
Im not sure exactly what your point is but Im pretty sure you are off big time

Nothing wrong with this trade for the value. We got three picks in. Only lose one actual selection, but got a good player. Nothing wrong with that.

1st/2nd RD picks that have underachieved
Meachem
Ellis
Malcolm Jenkins
Patrick Robinson
Charles Brown
Vaccaro
SJB
our best picks have came in rounds 3-5
These guys above were/are nothing more than serviceable starters. Some were flat out terrible.

I understand and I am coming around but if Lelito or Kelemente start at OG we are mediocre at best. If they both start we are totally screwed.

Carl Nicks isn't going to be a HOFer baw. The injury did him in

So outside of Armstead, we have found one good one since 2010 and we had to dump him because he was a head case?
All of these guys who were good wound up being guys we couldn't afford once their rookie contracts ran out? That doesn't help you build your team.
And for each of these guys, you can come back with (as I said before) Pierre and Lance, not to mention Chris Ivory, Khiry Robinson, Junior Galette, Garret Hartley, Jonathan Goodwin (the first time), Anthony Hargrove, Jonathan Casillas, Jo-Lonn Dunbar, Scott Shanle, and Chase Daniel.
And the Saints' track record says that we are more likely to get an Antonio Pittman, Al Woods, or Matt Tennant than they are to get a Carl Nicks.

But taking guys in the 1st and 2nd round that are no better than average does? WTF are you smoking man?

Which is why volume of late picks is important. I'm all for 3 busts if another pick turns into a multiple year starter who is a Pro Bowl player.
Let's put it another way, would you give up 3 mid to late round picks to have Carl Nicks?
Another even more on point question, would you draft 3 young players with potential in the mid to late rounds and then get lucky and get a Carl Nicks afterwards and make them superfluous?

Which of these guys are acknowledged projects like Charles Brown and SJB? Most of the rest of the guys are good players that we have no clue how to use like Malcolm Jenkins or who just lost their desire to play football like Sedrick Ellis.
