Without question the Saints to a man were inspired by the opportunity to be the team that finally delivered a long cherished Super Bowl appearance for it's loyal and resolute Who Dat nation of fans. At the same time they also carried the dashed hopes and dreams of all those who previously wore the black and gold. Some were great players who toiled with inferior teammates, some were great players who played on good teams which fell a little bit short. The following is a link to the past which each Saints player can embrace and carry the spirit of their comparable former Saint into the Super Bowl vs the Colts. The prior Saints are led by a select circle of greats who are joined by star players and a handful of squad men who embodied the everyman attributes which have linked this city and state to its team for all these years.

Feel free to suggest other deserving players:

wonderful tribute! So glad you mentioned Tommy Meyers. Lived in the same apt. complex (the yourshire) and he was always coming over to the apt. and showed the most class of a man I have every seen in my life.
I hope tommy is reading.

I submit Reggie Sutton.

Until I saw Greer, he was the best Saints cover corner I have ever seen.

With that said, Crack is Whack.

He is listed as the kick returner. He could have been the punt returner also, but split it and gave the PR job to Tyrone Hughes.

Muncie was probably the best back in Saints history, or at least the most gifted. He had Hall of Fame potential if he had managed his personal life. He has turned his life around post football and has worked hard to keep others from making the same mistakes he did.

Love the Saints, but no way I can ever put Chuck Muncie and best back or great football player in the same sentence. Glad he did well after football, but as a Saint he never gave it his all.........Lets stick with Hokie.....

I know waht you are saying, but in the years when Muncie was "right" his skill set and level of performance exceeded any other back in Saints history. Good that you mentioned Hokie. If Muncei had Hokie's work effort and slflessness he would be knocking on the door at Canton.

Tom Dempsey?

It is amazing that Dempsey is only the fourth best kicker in franchise history, but such has been the stability of Morten Andersen, Doug Brien, and John Carney.

Dempsey does merit a spot as most inspirational and I have edited to do just that.

Gene Atkins
- 7 workmanlike seasons with the Saints... now suffering from early-onset dementia from head traumas sustained during his career.

That is unfortunate. Atkins was a good player.

One of the best in a difficult time for the franchise.
