Just as an aside, nobody did worse than the Chiefs in 1975. Interestingly, this draft came right Hank Stram was fired, before coming to the Saints a year later. Only one player from the draft played in the NFL. And he ran for 38 yards.

I read that the first guy went to jail for murder and the one guy who made the team got cut halfway through the season.

1975 2 34 Elmore Stephens TE 0 0 0 Kentucky
1975 3 59 Cornelius Walker DT 0 0 0 Rice
1975 6 137 Morris LaGrand RB 1975 0 0 0 0 13 13 38 1 1 -1 0 Tampa
1975 6 139 Dave Wasick LB 0 0 0 San Jose St.
1975 8 189 Wayne Hoffman TE 0 0 0 Oklahoma
1975 11 268 Dale Hegland G 0 0 0 Minnesota
1975 12 293 James Rackley RB 0 0 0 Florida A&M
1975 13 318 John Snider LB 0 0 0 Stanford
1975 14 346 Gene Moshier G 0 0 0 Vanderbilt
1975 16 396 Mark Petersen DE 0 0 0 Illinois
1975 17 424 Mike Bulino DB 0 0 0 Pittsburgh

'97 was gawdawful. Turnbull was actually a pretty good player for a few years. Pretty sure he made the Pro Bowl once.

Always liked Turnbull. He was one of those players who was actually good but very under appreciated by Saints fans. Theres been alot of em. First 2 that come to mind is Harper of today & Wayne Martin back in the day.

Ricky Williams was bad but considering we got 2 #1s for him.......he gave us a lot more production than fricking sullidouche

Ultimately it didn't really matter because Ditka was so atrocious at drafting he probably would've whiffed on every pick anyway.

We also got Charles Grant back for trading him to Miami. I mean, it wasn't like either guy was terrible.

The other 1 that came out of trading Ricky Williams to Miami turned out to be Calvin Pace. He's still a decent NFL player.

yeah. the thing is though we had 2 1st round picks in 2003. We traded both of them away to the Cardinals to move up and get..............

Jonathon Sullivan

They had done a pretty good job in the drafts before that one with the first few picks. Darren Howard, Deuce, Donte Stallworth, and Charles Grant.

But the Sullivan pick was one of the worst picks ever.

edit: looking back, the 1997 draft was pretty rough. Naeole atleast was a solid starter for a handful of seasons. But jesus, Rob Kelly in the second round?

I was absolutely sure that move up was to get Trufant as well.

This was about a year before I left NOLA for PT school. I was working as a PT tech at a clinic. One of our patients was related to Marcus. She told me that Marcus himself thought the move was for him initially before he didn't get the call from the war room. He supposedly had a good bit of family in the New Orleans area and Texas and was really excited about coming here....only he didn't

yep a friend of mine is cousins with him. He said when the Saints traded up everyone was excited because they thought it was going to be Trufant, only to to draft a 350lb tub of lard.
