YOUR PICKS
27
S HA’SEAN CLINTON-DIX
ALABAMA
--Rangy, hard hitting safety who loves to come up in run support. Can cover tight ends and wide receivers. Ideal size and can play both safety positions. A Clinton Dix- Vacarro pairing would be deadly.
58
CB KYLE FULLER
VIRGINIA TECH
--Tough, hard-nosed corner who loves to mix it up in run support. Great instincts and anticipation and often runs the route better than the receiver. Ideal size at 6'0 ft and 194 lbs. just the physical, tough corner we need opposite Keenan Lewis.
89
DE JACKSON JEFFCOAT
TEXAS
--Solid size and exceptional athleticism. Displays a powerful and aggressive bull rush and is quicker than expected. Is VERY versatile and could drop back into coverage if he is forced to. Must widen his array of pass rushing moves. Would be a very useful piece in Rob Ryan's defense. Could play all over the place.
123
OT JAMES HURST
UNC
-- Great length at 6'7. Handles speed rushers with fluidity and ease. Completely shut down Jadaveon Clowney. Will greatly benefit from an NFL weight room but all of his success depends on his knee rehab. Great potential here and is my favorite pickup in this draft.
154
WR TEVIN REESE
BAYLOR
--Has insane speed. Deadly deep threat who averaged 25 yards per catch this past season. His season was cut short by injury to seven games but still managed to catch 33 passes for 825 yards. Weaknesses are his size and hands. But, would be a very interesting weapon for Payton and Brees.
185
WR L’DAMIAN WASHINGTON
MISSOURI
--Insane athleticism. Has a great size and displays great body control as well. Is 6'5 ft and 205 lbs. must improve route running, but hands and leaping ability are elite. Would be a great low risk, high reward pick in the sixth round. Raw prospect who could be the true big bodied, athletic deep threat at wide receiver that we crave. Sleeper pick.
What do you guys think about this draft?

I'm an LSU fan, but Barrow is not very good...I doubt he makes a roster

Yeah I'm not blown away by Barrow either but he was at the top of the draft list when it was my pick so I just selected him.
I was gonna draft a ILB there but I didn't know anything about the guys who were still available.
You can never have enough LBs though, and Barrow reminds me of JoLonn Dunbar who was a solid backup.

But really. A top end receiver like a Randall Cobb type
Marqise lee or Odell Beckham would be nice then go tackle in the 2nd and in the 3rd I really want EJ Gaines from Missouri. Dude is very consistent. And LaDamian Washington would be a steal in the later rounds. Dude caught a curl route against Florida and then turned around and burned the whole secondary for a TD

I agree we're gonna end up needing another WR and I would love to draft Landry, OBJ or another top 10 wideout. but we shouldn't use one of our top 3 picks to get a wr.
Payton gets his rocks off by developing players he finds in the bargain bin... particularly wideouts. IMO, he learned his lesson when he panicked and drafted Meachem in the 1st rd in '07 bc he thought he had squat at WR besides a young Colston. Then Meachem didnt play a down as a rookie and then our WRs blow up the following year.
what I'm saying is, we have done just fine finding productive wideouts late in the draft as well as UDFA's.
So, bulk up the Oline and the secondary in rds 1-4, then go find some skilled players that need polishing and let Payton and Drew buff that turd into a diamond.

He's also done well with OL in later rounds and UDFA and have had top 3 round lineman busts as well.
BPA at a needed position. If ODB is there, i would pray he better be the BPA.

Then I'm not sure what we go with in the first round. Bradley Roby from Ohio State would be nice and I say corner because of Payton's stubbornness. I think he's gonna ride Armstead next year. We really should just add depth there. Why waste a 1st or 2nd rounder on a guy that's going to sit behind Armstead or Strief. Lets get some guys on the damn field
Or I wouldn't mind HaHa Clinton Dix in the first then go EJ Gaines in the 3rd. Frick who knows who Payton even likes.

He's done well with Guards and Centers but not Tackles. We need to suck it up and draft a top OT this year in the first. The development for OTs is a lot more fickle and likely to not work out. Bushrod was good, but he was still a 3rd rounder. We also don't have Kromer anymore.

I'm praying that Terron works out for us. Strief is a FA and probably can be resigned at a value rate. Whether we feel we can upgrade, maybe. I do like the idea of a road grader RT in the draft. I feel like our spot late first always gets the 2nd or 3rd tier of OT's. This is a deep class though but I think good value could be had in 2nd or 3rd round. We got a long ways for this though. Can't wait.
Posted on 1/3/14 at 1:24 pm to Chad504boy
I hate going tackle in the first round but we have to protect Brees. I just don't see anyone other than Matthews who can come in as a rookie and contribute right away. And frick I want a stud wide receiver.

then we should trade up.
we need an OT that can start asap for Brees. History shows that the top 5-7 Tackles that are drafted each year end up starting their rookie year. I think its a risk/move we need to finally make. Bushrod's replacement search needs to come to an end.
Answer me this. What if Armstead can't be the guy next year? Then what? Start another rookie or go back to Brown?
