This team is more talented and can be better than our SB team

There are 3 major things that must happen for us to reach the Super Bowl again: (in no particular order)

1. We must run the ball with success like the '09 team. We have the talent to do it. Ingram has looked impressive and I believe most of us are anxious to see if he will pick up where he left off last season. So far in the preseason, it looks like he will. Khiry looks more confident than last season and that makes his explosive running style even more dangerous. He is a home run hitter. Last and not certainly not least in this offense, Pierre Thomas. He is as consistent as consistent gets and will do whatever CSP needs of him.

2. We must stay healthy. This is an obvious one for any team . Injuries happen, of course, but so far throughout training camp and preseason we have stayed healthy. Maybe the more relaxed setting of training camp in West Virginia has something to do with that? I don't know.

3. Our defense needs take what it did last year and go to another level. We've added Byrd and Bailey to go along with a healthy PRob. Our secondary should be amazing this year. We could have 5 Pro Bowlers on defense and 3 potential Pro Bowlers in the secondary alone. Byrd should bring us more turnovers, something that helped bring us a championship in the '09 season.

The talent on this team top to bottom is impressive. I'd argue that this team is better than our SB team. I think we are more talented at WR than ever before, our safeties are better than that team's, our defensive line is better, and I think our team now has the advantage in that they know what it takes to get to the SB. They know how they have to train and prepare to get there. Thoughts?

Running game seemed to take a step backwards today. I dunno much about the colts d line... Are they known for being stout against the run?

Ingram ran well. Robinson not so much. Thomas and Cadet were steady.

I just want the special teams to contribute more outside of Morestead's booming punts.

we need the occasional big play in the return game like we had with Roby in 2009.

we need a placekicker who can be consistent.

too many games in the NFL today come down to the wire. A lot of times it is errors/lack of plays on special teams that make a big difference.

Word. This 2014 team has the potential to dominate and take the NFL by storm.

I just hope we've fixed whatever issues we had that led us to dropping a lot of road games in the second half of the season, whether that be injuries or just general psyche.

We were a minute away from another Lombardi in 11 IMO.

This team is more talented, and we have a better DC.

I don't know.

2011 Defense just wasn't that good. At least the 09 D could make a big play when needed.

to me, the 2009 team was a lot more complementary of each other.

the defense made a ton of plays that year and the special teams had its moments too.

2011 was fun because of the lockout and our offense ran a train on the league.

Hope so.

IIRC, in 3 preseason games so far, the Saints' defense has had 8 turnovers (I'm including the INT the refs robbed from Keenan, too!)

That's a good sign.

It looks like this will be the best SAINTS team ever barring unforeseen circumstances.

The only problem I have with this whole conversation is that the qb being the most important position on the field,

Drew Brees 2009>>>drew Brees 2014 therefore ,

overall team 2009>2014

Rest of the roster 2014>2009

Had Pierre Thomas, not gotten knocked out and fumbled on opening drive 2011 playoffs vs San Fran, we win, and 2011 greatest team in saints history

Only in arm strength. He's a much better QB right now.

So you base this on 2 preseason drives that were good TD drives? What are the powerball numbers?

This team is poised to kick major arse this season. SHould be fun to watch.

Robinson not so much

he seems to be hesitant this preseason. I don't know what his deal is, last year he was up field after his first cut. He is way to explosive to dance around as much he has

No he means Robys KO return TD in St. Louis that helped us win the game. We may lose that one without it

Only thing that worries me is honestly our run game wasn't that impressive besides a couple by Ingram. When we run up against San Fran and Seattle again I'm not sure how successful well be running against those fronts
