Sorry but I have to agree. His voice is too high, just doesn't have that deep baritone that an announcer should have. Little League is more his speed. Oh, and the fact that he's been there for a thousand years doesn't mean he's got the right voice for the job.

the funny thing is, the OP is obviously not a fan of the Saints or a huge bandwagon douche. If you are gonna call the wiley ole superdome vet out, at least know his fricking name. this whole thread is fail.

So now you're a bandwagon fan if you don't like the Superdome PA guy I went to my first game in 1988 and I didn't know the superdome PA guy's name. I guess I must bandwagon fan too

This board is turning into a Saints' version of the rant

Jerry Romig is a legend. If Im not misteaken, I dont think he has ever missed calling a home game for the Saints. And Ive heard that his pay has been the same since 67'.

I must be a horrible Saints fan. I have been going to games since I was 13, and I can honestly say I've never once had an opinion on the PA guy one way or the other.

I don't care how long the clown has been doing the PA stuff... I don't like him or his voice. Plus, he always seems behind the action to me.

I've been to many NFL stadiums and didn't remember what the PA announcers sounded like, and IMO that is a good thing.

What makes a good PA guy?

you people are fricking stupd.

would you rather some black MC from a radio station trying to hype the crowd up?

the people that hate him are probably bandwagon fans anyway. For people that have been Saints fans for a long time, he is the first thing we have ever heard at a sporting event. His voice sparks so many memories. It will be a sad day when he is gone.

Not sure what makes a shitty PA guy. He does his job. Never says too much. And knows what to say to get the crowd in the game. 99% of the people in the dome love the guy, for good reason.

take you bandwagon arse somewhere else. Become a Falcon fan, they use Samuel L Jackson to jack their team up.

As opposed to the PA announcers that call the plays as they're happening?

You must not have traveled to any other stadiums because he is the best by far out of the 11 other stadiums that I have visited.

The guy is just awful. He may be a nice person, he may be an icon to some, but he is not one of my favorite gameday experiences.

Well, what then should he be doing? Seems like a relatively straightforward job. Announce the down and distance, then the result of the play. How could one be "awful"?

It seems equally as hard to become legendary with those meager obligations.

Legendary to Saints fans who grew up listening to him at every home game. Like it or not, it WOULD NOT be the same without him. First Down, Saaaaiiints!!! Choke on it haters.....

So if they are meager, what's to hate about him? It really is just the fact that his voice is recognized as the voice of the Dome that he's appreciated. Not much to it, nothing to call "awful."

I've been going to games since 78 and I have been a season ticket holder since 2005. I can see both sides of the argument. Personally, I'm not a big fan of him but I do respect his time with the Saints and announcing different events in the Superdome. Regardless of taste, he has become somewhat legendary.

This always gets me after a pass completion:

"Drew Brees passing complete to Marques Colston"

It always sounds like "Drew Brees pass incomplete to Marques Colston"
