The market was definitely there.
Based on what? One Superbowl win in 15 years, in which he had almost complete control of the franchise, along with a Hof quarterback in his prime years

Sad?
I'm happy we got a 1st. Would have done the 24 1st but I wasn't there.
Not taking a deal this year was gonna lead to next to nothing next year. And all those piling on the FO would have lost their mind lol. Also many here think this was all Loomis or CSP or the mules. No deal was getting done unless all three were good. That. Is. Not. Easy.
But rant on everyone!

Nah, there was a market & payton took the saints to school. Waited it out for it to dry up so that his new team would benefit

Imagine melting over a third round pick

Waited what out? If he didn't want to coach in Carolina, Arizona or wherever else, what team would give up picks for home in hopes that he would sign a contract?
Granted I do not follow the NFL as much as most in contracts.
But he didn't have to sign a contract wherever the best deal for the saints was

Don’t you realize the points system is antiquated made up nonsense?
I think Gil Brandt invented it.

Lol there was NEVER any logic in that points system.
Getting Joe Burrow doesn’t even have close to the same value as Travon Walker.
The #10 pick of the NFL draft in 2017 was worth 10 times the #11 pick.

I think Payton fricked up going to Denver. the AFC is loaded AF and I can’t see Wilson being the next Drew Brees. Glad Payton is in the AFC though.

Yes . There was a market. It was Denver all along for Payton. This whole thing was just waiting to see where the pick from San Francisco would be at. I guess the difference in 29 compared to 31 or 32 was what sealed the deal for Mick.

Also pretty clear now that the Broncos flirting with Harbaugh again was for leverage against Payton and the Saints.
Didn’t the owner fly out to Michigan to try and convince Harbaugh? I think he was their first choice since he’d be cheaper and wouldn’t cost draft picks. He said no and Ryans said no so the Broncos became desperate.
On a side note, it’s funny I got trashed on here last year for saying Harbaugh should have been the hire and a year later teams wanted him more than CSP….
