I really can't believe he is still alive. one of my good friends died from ALS in 4 years and that is a long time. it was horrible.

Technological advances are keeping him alive. By now, if he had let the disease take its course, his diaphragm would have lost innervation and he would stop breathing. Luckily there are mechanical ventilators

ALS is one of the worst diseases I have ever seen and I will be glad when we find a way to reverse or prevent the damage it causes to so many

But is he really alive and living comfortably?

Having ALS is like living in a statue of stone where you can't breathe on your own, eat, drink or piss and shite on your own, and even move your fingers on your own and you have to have people help you do that and clean up after you.

That is humiliating and I'd honestly rather die at that point if there's no cure.

Saw him at the Cirque du Soliel show this weekend so it seems he's trying to enjoy life still. It's easy to say we never would without being in that position. He's getting to watch his son grow sometimes that's enough to keep you hanging on.

He is alive and fully conscious. He is making the most of his time left on earth.

It's one of the worst things to go through but, I know a handful of people who would do anything to see their child graduate high school, get married etc.

Steve wants to experience life. That's why his foundation is called No White Flags. He's not giving up

Having this disease "humiliate" him is exactly why he is living out his final days to the fullest. Maybe you should take note

I know we like to banter back and forth but Steve Gleason is a class act and a perfect example of the fight that lives in the human spirit.

I truly hope that he lives to see a cure or, at least, great progression in treatment for ALS. Even if it can't save his life, that would be awesome knowing he helped others.
Every day he gets with his kids and family is another win for Gleason.

I salute that man!!
