This is the exact reason why Haener should get a chance. He could be the next Purdy. I know preseason he sucked against scrubs but he was also playing with scrubs.

So many variables factor into it. You need enough tangible arm talent, athleticism for the system needed, football moxy, football smarts, leadership skills, a coaching staff knowing and deliberately putting you in a position of success with a system, having the talent on the offense to help you be successful, little bit of luck staying healthy, having the mental fortitude to keep working hard and not get complacent...

The NFL protects some of the QB’s from injury and controls the narrative on who the league wants to promote. It’s not always raw talent. Some serviceable QB’s have targets on their back. Some directed luck is always helpful.

Purdy benefitted from having exceptional weapons in addition to being in a QB friendly system. He definitely struggled this year without his normal guys.
New Orleans' offense is way too QB dependent for Haener to step in and succeed. Brees was the only one to really excel in it, but he's a HoF QB. I'd say the kid is another 1-2 years away from being able to be somewhat efficient, especially with Carmichael as OC.

Only if he is playing for Kyle Shanahan. Haener would get destroyed behind our offensive line.
