I understand it some but I don't see any way we can pay a qb.I really don't think we can pay Winston because someone will pay him 12-15 mil next season. We would have to trade Ak Thomas Hill to afford Watson. Please explain the Hill contract 16mil next year does SP believe Hill is our quarterback next year. If you have a smart arse comment go take a long walk off a short pier!

Basically Sean & Mickey knew Drew was leaving after this year, and didn’t want to lose Taysom so they backloaded his contract. Give him another 2 year extension to backload it some more and they will be fine. We will be able to afford Winston or anyone else once players restructure and resign.

Basically through some of the no-brainer cuts and restructures we can free up around 100-115 million (currently -99M on cap). We can do a few additional ones too to free up more but they’re less smart/cutting more valuable players with more dead money sooner.

I’m thinking at this exact moment the NFLPA may step in and try to get the cap raised, because as it stands half of the NFL is over the cap because of COVID affecting revenue, and a lot of vets will have to get cut. So we may get lucky and get some space back too.

I think the hope currently is Winston gives us a deal like 2yr/25 or something with a lot of incentives

When Drew retires, they will rework his contract so that the salary cap hit is spread out over future seasons. Then they will sign latimore and Ramczyk to extensions with contracts that are backloaded against the cap. Next come the players who are all making 12 million plus next year. There are about a dozen of these guys. Some they will want to extend, some they will want to rework, all will get salaries converted into signing bonuses that can then be spread out over future seasons. This will easily get the Saints under whatever the cap is going to be.

I would expect Jared Cook, Rankins, and Anzalone to not be resigned. I think they will probably want to re-sign Marcus Williams. obviously I don't know specifics because it's all speculation at this point, but when have the Saints ever had issues getting where they need to be with the salary cap? Sure this is an outrageous number, but the Saints always operate as if the salary cap is a suggestion. They find creative ways to move money around, shuffle it to the future, exempt it from the salary cap, add voidable years to spread the money around, etc every single year for the last 10 years when they have been up against the salary cap. Every year they sign free agents that no one thinks they will be able to sign.

At some point Saints fans just got to stop worrying about the salary cap because Loomis and Kai Harley sure don't.

There is no free lunch but Khai Harley is sharp enough to deal with almost any cap issue the Saints could face.

Rankins

I think they try to bring him back at a low rate. With his injury history, I don't know if he gets a big contract in FA.

Wasn't the team in cap hell before they signed Byrd? Then they moved a bunch of salaries around and made it work, unfortunately.
