He wants more money than the saints or eagles were willing to give him. He is a top player on the field but I think his loose cannon personality off the field makes teams gun-shy to give him money and long term stability.

He wanted 12 Million a year. If he had said 6.5 like he is getting from Detroit, he would still be a Saint if that was indeed what he wanted. He overvalued himself relative to his position.

We did. Not having him probably cost us two games. That’s how bad the replacements at his nickel spot were a few of those games.

I think he thought the Eagles were gonna pay him close to what he wanted from us. When they said no, he felt disrespected and ended up signing for less from another team.

Eagles fans and saints fans both would have been happy to give him the contract he signed with the lions.

Well two things were certain.

1. Tyrann Mathieu was not an upgrade to CJGJ.
2. CJGJ was not happy with his rookie contract in Sean Payton's final season in New Orleans.

To me they should have extended him that season at a reduced rate. You cannot say for certain they even have the nickel/safety position locked up for next season, so if they signed him to a 4 year deal we'd be in year 3 of his contract this year and have that position locked down. Now we are looking at another season of "who knows?" at that position.

Solid players are hard to come by and I think it's foolish to let someone go that proves themselves early on. Not saying break the bank to keep them, but at least try to keep them.

But you must admit now that trade was the first sign the organization knew we didn’t have a chance to do anything last year by letting go a solid starter go for a 5th rounder. No team with any confidence about the season does that and it’s why Philly accepted the trade just for what they probably expected would be one season. Look for signs, not what they tell you.

we did. we would have better compensation had we got extra compensatory pick and not helped ruin his reputation by trading him for trash.

Yeah but then we would have had to keep him on the roster all year. He would have destroyed the locker room in that time frame

They offered to sign him to a long term deal but he wasn’t happy with the figures. They decided to get what they could for him last year , instead of him being pissy in the locker room and in the media…causing distractions .
