Sean Payton's QB drafting History

I'm super bored and up late so let's take a look at the success or possibly lack there of when Sean Payton has drafted a QB or signed an UDFA QB. I know he may not have had the finaly say on a lot of these decisions but he had a hand in all of them. I will grade them from 1-10 with a final grading scale of:
1-3-D
4-6-C
7-8-B
9-10-A
1997 7th round QB Koy Detmer -Colorado
Detmer spent 10 seasons in the NFL all with the Eagles, and all as a backup. He was a quality backup in the limited amount of action he saw. His biggest playing time came in 1998 when he played five games, however, ultimately the Eagles went on the have their worst season in franchise history with a 3-13 record. Detmer is now a high school football coach in Texas.
Grade-4
2002 4th round Jesse Palmer- Florida
Palmer wasnt highly touted coming out of college though many believed he had what it took to be an NFL QB. Palmer played for the Giants in a backup role for four seasons, starting 3 of the 8 games he played in. He finished his NFL career without playing a down after being signed for a short stint with the 49ers in 2005. Palmer could have become the highest paid player in the CFL at the time but took the opportunity with the Niners instead. Palmer was cast as the bachelor on the hit TV show for one season and forgot one of the contestants name in the opening ceremony. Palmer is now a football analyst for College, NFL, and CFL games.
Grade-3
2003 Undrafted Tony Romo- Eastern Illinois
Romo is hated by many especially most through out WHO DAT nation, but he has been the second most succesful QB that Sean Payton has courted. After attending the combine and draft in 2003, Romo went undrafted. All through out the process Sean Payton assured Romo he had a spot with the Dallas Cowboys and that is just what he got when he signed with them as an UDFA. Romo is now the starting QB and just recieved a hefty but scrutinized contract extension.
Grade-7
2006 Free Agency Drew Brees- Purdue
Brees was neither a draft pick or UDFA signing by Payton but I thought I'd throw him in there as Payton made the correct choice between the savior and Culpepper. WHO DAT!
Grade- 10
2009- UDFA Chase Daniel- Missouri
Daniel was popular in his stint with the Saints after being picked up off waviers from the Washington Redskins when he went undrafted in the 2010 NFL draft. Daniel, to some, resembled the physique of Drew Brees and worked well into the system. After spending the first two years on and off the active roster and practice squad, Daniel spent the 2010, 2011, and 2012 season as Drew Brees' backup. Daniel was tragically lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in FA.
Grade- 5
2010 7th Round Sean Canfield- Oregon State
Canfield was touted as one of the best QB prospects coming out of college in 2010, although he has not lived up to the hype. Canfield has spent the first three NFL Seasons dumping throws to RB's in the 4th quarters of pre-season games. The jury is still out on Canfield, but most likely everyone pier on the jury is already one foot out of the door.
Grade- 2
The scores bring Payton's average to a whopping 5.2. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt as he hit the jackpot with the Brees signing and bump his score up to a 7 for good measure.
FINAL GRADE- B
Any takers for me to do other positions in the leading days to the draft?

I don't remember culpepper ever being an option for the saints. Miami traded for him after Brees signed with New Orleans. I don't think we were ever interested in him
I'd give romo a higher grade. For an udfa signing I'd give that a 9-10. You don't find franchise qb as udfa often

Culpepper was most certainly an option in '06
My problem with grading Payton in this manner is that you can't determine if these are draft selections he had to settle for or top of the table picks.
A better measure would be to determine progress from Coaching once they spend time with SP. Canfield, for example, was a 7th round pick. He's held a roster position for three years and counting now. How many 7th round QB's from 3 or 4 years ago are even still in the NFL?

You forgot to throw Tyler Palko in there as well.

Not being a dick. I just truly don't remember hearing culpeppers name mentioned in association with the saints. Brees visited here and Miami. Signed here. Miami traded a 2nd round pick for culpepper. I don't recall hearing that we were interested in trading for him or that it was a "Brees or culpepper" decision

I thought it was well known that the Saints were drafting Matt Leinart if they didnt get Brees.
Shame that didnt work out...Ya know Leinart....He would have been a good fit with the Saints I think, I mean. Probably should have had more consideration from the Saints. Could have been a good move for the both of you...

Bree's signing should be a 20. He's gonna end up as a top 5 all time qb.

Canfiels spent 3 seasons in camp Payton. If he couldn't catch on wit the best he never will.
