re: Sean has a job. You don't put together a staff unless you have a job.

If Payton is going somewhere he's signing up for more than just next year. Murray would give him something to build around long term and would make sense. Also, Murray will be back next year even if he does miss the first few games. Arizona and Chargers are the two that make the most sense as far as having franchise QB's to build around.

This seems the most likely to me. Any kind of first is probably a non-starter and a total pipe dream. If they can get anything they're going to take it.

Sean put together a staff for 16 years. Including Dennis Allen (twice). Most of this current staff have a connection to him. Let him build another staff and another team. If he doesn't get a future hall of fame quarterback he will fail. 16 years he did not develop shite at that position.

Sorry they need to trade us both 1s.
I literally laughed out loud. There’s no way that is happening. Most teams wouldn’t even give ONE first round pick, no matter where it lands. I think Houston makes the most sense because they have two firsts and two thirds this year and two firsts next year. Any team with multiple early round picks gives the Saints more bargaining power. Loomis can demand more because the other party has more; and in this case more is less, because head coach trades are rare and fair compensation is usually not obtained.
The only other teams with multiple firsts this year (the Seahawks, Eagles, and Lions) don’t need new coaches. Lovie Smith with Houston is old and was always going to be a stopgap solution. Houston makes the most sense, especially if they get to keep the #1 overall and draft their franchise QB.
The Gruden trade landed two firsts, two seconds, and $8M; the Belichick trade landed a single first rounder; and the Parcells trade landed a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
The Gruden trade was an anomaly. Al Davis was one of the best negotiator-executives in the modern era. Honestly, if I’m Loomis, I start with the Gruden draft compensation, without the cash, as an asking point—and at BARE MINIMUM I’m only accepting a first rounder this year and a second rounder next year. Essentially, in that scenario we would recoup the two picks we lost in the Philly deal, and every Saints fan should be elated if that happened. Sean may try to schmooze his “best friend” Loomis to get what he wants, and if that happens, it’s time to lower your expectations. Like a lot of people here, I think Loomis will find a way to botch this and get a lot less in return for Sean than we all hope.

Arizona would be a good scenario but probably not his destination. If he did then, Carmichael rejoins Payton and Kingsbury is available for Saints OC. That would be great for Allen so he could hand the offense over to Kingbuery the way Sean handed the defense to Allen so he could focus on what he is best at.

Gayle will trade Sean Payton for a dozen king cakes to be shipped to the archdiocese of New Orleans.
