per NFL...

quote:

The Saints have captivated viewers nationwide with their two-headed backfield and bevy of weapons available to future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees. For the first time in four years, the Saints won't finish 7-9, not by a long shot. And while Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram have plenty to do with that (Michael Thomas, too). But as always, it starts with the offensive line. New Orleans waved goodbye to a veteran mainstay in guard Jahri Evans, replaced him with free-agent signing Larry Warford and drafted Ryan Ramczyk out of Wisconsin with the last pick of the first round. Even more impressive, the Saints weathered multiple shufflings of its starting five, moving Ramczyk from left to right tackle after Zach Strief was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, and replacing Ramczyk with Terron Armstead. Senio Kelemete has also seen time in the lineup intermittently. All the while, the Saints haven't missed a beat, bullying opponents in the rushing and passing game. We took a week to break down what works for them in mid-November. Nothing has changed since. New Orleans' offensive line is so effective, it even stands out to the average viewer, who is more focused on the location of the ball than large men moving other large men. It's also contributed to the league's fifth-ranked rushing and passing offenses, which, when combined, is the NFL's second best total offense at 395.7 yards per game. When healthy, it's a machine that starts up front and doesn't relent until it's found the end zone. Watch out.

That Bills game was a thing of beauty. I can’t remember ever, with the Saints, going from the 10 yard line and running all the way down the field in 10+ plays to the othe end zone . Imposing that type of will on the D was something I will always remember.

When we run it yes

At times we struggle in pass protection though, looking at the Rams game as a perfect example. When we block well in the pass game we're unstoppable on offense because Payton doesn't call such a safe game.

When he feels like the OL is getting worked he calls a lot of screens and short passes, which kind of kills our offensive mojo most of the time. We go as the OL go. If they bring their A game and pass pro well then we will go far

Yeah that’s right. Not sure why I think it was a pass.

It was technically a called pass that turned into a run.

Yet none of them made the Pro bowl.

Unger, Peat, and Ramzyck should have been in it.

Agreed on Peat & Ramczyk. Unger has been playing great lately, but the beginning of the year wasn't so great. I assume he wasn't fully recovered from his preseason injury though.

We don't really have any completely elite (run blocking & pass blocking) guys on our O-Line, but they're all well above average as a whole. Armstead (he's elite as far as talent, but he's always nicked up & can't stay on the field) & Ramczyk are our most complete O-Lineman imo. Peat & Warford are top level run blockers, & Unger's strength is pass protection.

Unger is getting older & Warford is basically a roadgrader in the run game (that's usually what you want in a RG though).

Peat hasn't reached his ceiling yet imo (all he has to do is become a better pass blocker), Ramczyk is a rookie, & Armstead would be elite if he wasn't injured so easily. I think these 3 guys can potentially be elite next year(Peat & Ramczyk with time, & Armstead with health). Overall, we do have the #1 O-Line...especially when you factor Kelemete into the equation.
