still closing with a kewl little story...
High school art teacher David Magee got a lot more than he bargained for when he asked New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees for an autograph.
Brees, who was scheduled to sign autographs at Edgewater Mall this past weekend, offered to purchase the painting that Magee asked him to sign, GulfLive.com reports.
"He actually bought it," Magee told the website. "I'm still in shock! My painting, my work is going to be a family heirloom for the Brees family."
The painting depicts Brees holding his infant son while celebrating last season’s Super Bowl victory.
"I thought it was such a powerful moment during the Super Bowl that I wanted to paint it," Magee said.
Magee finished the painting in April and entered it into an art show in May. He wanted to get it signed by Brees to make it more valuable to potential buyers. All Magee had to do was pay $150 for a ticket to the autograph event.
"The signature, along with a sticker to make it official, was a good deal, and I hadn't been able to sell it yet," Magee said. "I figured I could get my money back on the investment. I was hoping Brees wanted it for himself, but if not, I was going to get it signed so that I could, hopefully, sell it."
Magee didn’t say how much Brees paid for the painting, but the Super Bowl MVP also gave the teacher Saints tickets and other autographed items.
