Reggie’s stats for the first 4 years of his career are very compatible and or better than some of the best multi-purpose backs and their first 4 years. I think Reggie is well worth our patience and appreciation…

Bush
Att....Yds ....Avg....Td....Rec....Yds...Avg...Td
480* *1860* *3.9* *17* *252* *1880* *7.5* *11

Westbrook
Att....Yds ....Avg....Td....Rec....Yds...Avg...Td
496* *2235* *4.5* *13* *180* *1737* *9.5* *14

Kevin Faulk
Att....Yds ....Avg....Td....Rec....Yds...Avg...Td
324* *1237* *4.0* *8 * *130* *1131* *8.4* * 7

Tiki Barber

While you're probably right. I'd like to suggest that SP go get Dexter McCluster in this draft, just in case Reggie does in fact, fold.

Can you also give us a breakdown of each player's salary through their first four seasons? This isn't a bash on Bush, just curious.

doesn't take a genius to figure out that those other rookie contracts were no where near equal to reggies.

I think that is now the biggest problem people have with Reggie, the size of his contract next year. I agree he needs to either bite the bullet for the team or go. I think he is getting better each game and if he can stay healthy he will be a very good back.

He won't have a choice. No other team will give him more than we will in a renegotiation. To be fair, he probably deserves Devon Hester type money.

I think his future is as a KR/PR and a slot receiver ala Wes Welker. Line him up in the backfield every now and then.

Not that it makes a difference but you've got some mistakes in your stats. I only checked Tiki's TDs and average and Westbrooks's TDs. Once I saw that these were wrong I quit checking.

FWIW--how about substituting Marshal for Kevin? Off the top of my head I couldn't tell you which had better stats over his first four years but I'd never include Kevin Faulk in a conversation with Westbrook and Barber.

the problem is that Reggie's knee is as fragile and temperamental as the vagina of a 17 year old born-again christian who is waiting until marriage.

his future productivity is very much in doubt after multiple knee surgeries including a microfracture procedure.

Injuries at this point are a much bigger concern than his contract. Contracts can be renegotiated...chronic knee injuries can't.

And don't hate on Reggie because of his deal. It's not his fault he was picked second overall. Is he overpaid? Yeah, sure. But he's still been a good player for us and I always want him to do well.

I disagree 100%. A Chiefs/Raiders/Bills type franchise will probably overpay him to get "star power".

We don't need Reggie - I personally love him but even I have to admit he's been arguably the worst punt returner in the NFL this season. He has the talent to change that at any time, but 13 games is a pretty large sample size to be averaging 5 yards per return with a couple of muffs.

I disagree with the premise that Reggie has any "star power".

Blame it on NFL.com

Was just trying to make a point, but thanks

Reggie definitely has star power. That isn't an argument. He's the most recognizable name/face on the team. That doesn't mean he's anywhere close to the best player, or most valuable, but he's definitely got flash. That's what comes from going to USC, winning the Heisman, dating Kim K, etc.

I'm glad you just arrived from 2006, but Brees is easily the most recognizable Saint.

I'll pass. McCluster is built like Reggie and isn't as good as Reggie was at USC.

If you think Reggie is a bust, wait till you see McCluster.

im a big time bush supporter. So im not knocken him. But the people that have problems with bush is that one he is overpaid 2 they will say that Westbrook faulk and barber was 2nd an 3rd picks not 1st 2nd overall. The hype for him was much bigger.

My thoughts on him
He needs to redo his deal. maybe 2 or 4 mill a year. Also im fine with his game play just needs not to dance as much on punts and hold the ball. Im not going to knock him for his rushing he is over 5yards a carry and i think he's at 5 td's for the year maybe 10 all together have not looked. Plus when he does do his thing he wins games for us. I can name a few game that he has won for us and if not for him we would of lost.

You could argue for either. I was responding tot he fact that it was said that Bush had no star power. Yeah, this year Brees has gotten a lot of pub, so you might be right. The idea of what I meant is still there, though. If you went anywhere int he world and asked people to name two New Orleans Saints, they will overwhelmingly say "Bush and Brees" in whatever order you like.
