Didn't the Saints themselves think Brown wouldn't last past 5 years? Last year was his 5th year and he had a major injury. He has some kind of disease. Do you really think hes still a Pro Bowl OT?

I like PT as much as the next Saintard, but I hope he isn't realistically thinking he is worth 7mil a year.

Browns best days are past him, the Saints really need that runstuffing DT because it's gonna take Al Woods awhile to develop if he develops at all, so they should make that trade happen IMO. Bush and Thomas are 2 completely different backs. Bush is makin what he is because that's just the way it is.
3rd rate RB's are or were Bell and Lynell Hamilton, SloFlo, this kid isn't a 3rd rate RB.
not sayin he deserves 7 mil a year, but def more than 1 mil.

you do realize that his injury had nothing to do with his knees?

@ BillJ you said it. He is absolutely injury prone and not worth that big of a contract. Don't get me wrong, I love PT. It's just too risky for us to give him this.

I really dont believe the guy or his agent thinks 7 million a year is going to happen. the report might not be true, or loomis could have tried nickel and diming him. I can see 4-5 million, but no more than that and I am a big fan of PT.

Why the hell has this went on for 11 damn pages? PT got no interest on the open market, they know hes not gonna get 7 mil a year, they just came in with a high number to get the price up. Kinda like if you are selling a car you put a higher price on it to have room to work with.It will probably end up around 4-5 mil.
Besides its not our damn money, who gives a flying shite how much they pay him?

Because we're already going to be super tight against the cap next season, and that's before a potential Brees extension. PT's deal could affect whether we keep a guy like Porter or Nicks, so it's a pretty big deal.

quote:hell, any RB in the NFL is injury prone, it's the nature of the beast, those guys take a pounding. Look at what people were sayin about A Peterson, and most of the Saints backs last year were banged up at some point.
He is absolutely injury prone and not worth that big of a contract.

well, he got rid of Grant and saved something on that and should get rid of McCray too because he's def not living up to his money, it all goes back to what I keep sayin, Loomis doesn't tie all that money up in those 3 DE's, he's got all the money he needs to negotiate.
Posted on 6/1/10 at 1:47 pm to THRILLHO
wants.
Its a negotiating position.

You people have no faith in the organization that put together all the great players we have at the right price and put together the only SUPER BOWL WINNING TEAM IN SAINTS HISTORY!!!!
Some of you people need your fan card pulled

will smith lived up to his contract last year fwiw

You can only frontload it so much. Any drop in salary greater than 50% will be treated as a signing bonus and prorated, so regardless of how frontloaded his deal is, he's going to be costing us a decent bit next year when we will really be struggling with the cap. Plus Benson doesn't have unlimited funds. He's already got the highest payroll in the NFL this year and I'm pretty sure he's in the bottom third of owners in terms of overall wealth.

No reason to have so much sand in your vagina, everyone would love to keep the entire 2009 team together for as long as possible. But that's not how it works. Otherwise we wouldn't have guys like Brees, Vilma, Shockey, Greer, and Sharper on the team.

will smith, yeah, and that was just last year, the year before he didn't do much, but my point earlier was they wouldn't have needed to sign Smith that high if they hadn't fricked up with Grant.

asking for $7M/year as a 3rd rate RB is not a negotiation. they should have just asked for $1B, because it's about as realistic
This!
The Saints offense didn't miss a beat when Thomas was out and won't miss a beat if he never plays another down for New Orleans.
Saints fans love him like their other heroes, John Fourcade and Michael Lewis. He was undrafted and got zero offers as a restricted free agent. The Saints are the only reason he is in the league and if they pull his tender, he'll spend the next 10 years as guest for Ed Daniels and Fletcher Mackell.

That's pretty retarded. The guy is a really good player, he just plays a position that isn't worth a big investment.
