Payton trade question

When it comes to trading for a coach, does that position have to be open or can say a team not necessarily wanting to fire their coach unless they got SP just make the trade and then fire the existing coach? If that is the case is that okay in regards to the Rooney rule since they traded for the coach and didn’t necessarily interview him? This may be a dumb question unless major back channel conversations were had regarding whether or not SP wants the job and the compensation that comes with it. If this were to happen I would think there would be a major uproar amongst the other franchises.

I think the Rooney rule still applies. Pretty sure they could come to an agreement with the Saints and Payton, but not finalize anything until they interviewed minority candidates.

Rooney Rule applies, and CSP wouldn't want to be traded to another team that already has a coach.

Absolutely cannot do this. If the league found out that team would get hammered.

Can a team trade for Payton and then turn around and trade him to another team?
Goodell would step in and stop it.

The rule is fricking stupid and minorities should be insulted and embarrassed.
