Apparently he didn't think they were that great because EVERYONE knows a franchise quarterback is essential. But he he doesn't mind trading away multiple first for an often injured DE

This actually makes part of my point for me.

No it doesn't
He tried everything he could do to get mahomes. KC had more ammo. Just because you have a particular player ranked high on you board doesn't mean you can get him. The other team your trading with might not even listen. And that has nothing to do with QB evaluation, which was the whole point of your post. Your talking about draft strategy and the ability of an organization to make a deal. I'll listen to that argument. Put if your trying to stitch together some ridiculous argument that having Wilson,Mahomes,Herbert and Deshaun Watson at the top of your QB grades, is bad QB evaluation, then I don't know what to tell you.

This is a guy who's whole "Hall of Fame" coach career is based off of having drew brees as his quarterback

Brees was a known commodity when Payton brought him to the saints. Sure, he had his shoulder injury question but a healthy Brees as a good NFL qb was a known.

Brees played 5 years for the Chargers

Is there any explanation on why he became a 1st ballot HOFer and improved exponentially once he got to the Saints? He and Payton inherited a 3-13 ballclub. Id love to hear it

Some say Payton was somewhat responsible for finding Romo but Romo was under Parcells influence more than Payton.

Need to do a refresher Bubba. Romo had offers for more money from Denver and Arizona, he ultimately went to Dallas bc of Payton and credits Sean P with a lot of his success.

Now, the knock on Payton's in-ability to evaluate QB's is proven in all the QB's he personally drafted since the saints HC and the fact that not a one has come close to even being a backup QB on any team. That is a huge flaw for a offensive guru with a HOF QB on his resume'.

"the knock", huh

You people are great

You can only develop to a certain point. Expecting CSP to develop taysom into a HOF QB is as unreasonable as me saying I’m going to develop a 2 door civic to perform like a Porsche 911 because they’re both coupes. It ain’t happenin’.

He didn't attempt a trade, KC jumped him. Point is if you have him ranked as your franchise quarterback, you think about who needs a quarterback and where you need to be, newsflash other teams can trade up also

It's a shame about Winston. He looked like he was on pace for a breakout game against the Bucs before getting hurt.
