This is the only reasonable discussion I've been able to have on it. The brain trust that believes SP can do no wrong and are in denial about our D and draft record since 09 jumped up my arse defending the pick when they know deep down they don't like it either. Ironically the last time I bitched this much is when we took Dante stallworth when Ed reed was on the board. fricking haslett and his 40 times.

Who's that?

Are you putting out straw dogs?

So what your saying is that because folks disagree that the Saints blew the pick vs we played it safe we are in denial about the defense?

WOW.

Disagreein is one thing. Shutting down any discussion on it is another. just look at the board, UDFAs generate more discussion because no one wants to talk about it. Most people are probably disappointed but convince themselves otherwise. Countless, "I'm starting to come around" posts

Great talent will elevate a unit. There is no justification for taking KV over JJ. Pass rushers are a premium. We're transitioning, we have not one proven guy, and we were historically dreadful. Where do we begin? Safety with a top 5 talent pass rusher in the board. This is why our defense sucks and why it will continue to suck.

With a top 5 mock drafter/fan pass rusher on the board. Like I said before the draft countless times, just because some stupid blogger has JJ going to the saints doesn't even indicate we have interest in the guy.

We were historically dreadful in a completely different system. In a similar system we were middle of the road(with worse players than we presently have on roster).

I will bet that our top pass rushing linebacker this year has more sacks than JJ does.

I think I was just surprised at how extreme some of the negative reaction was by those who preferred Jones. Of course, I had my doubts about Jones in the first place (although I freely admit he could turn out to be a stud in the NFL, especially under LeBeau). Like I said, KV seems to be a safe pick and should contribute right away. If Galette, Butler, and company along with the 3-4 don't pan out, then I guess we're fricked for another year.

Yeah, Reed may have been a better choice. But, dude, I have a little more faith in the current regime.

Well, I kind of doubt we can petition the league for a "do over", so . . .

The 1st round pick is always the most debated simply because of its perceived importance and because by the time of the draft they have been vetted more than Sarah Palin

Always happens always will.

To be totaly honest when we made the pic( i had JJ too) I had2 reactions: 1 Was Wow...the Saints must have serious concerns on this guy.
2. The board is gonna blow up over this.

Reid also had the benefit of playing on a defense where 8 guys were drafted in the top 5 rounds this year in a conference with much less aggressive passing/offenses.

I agree about the value of a pass rush, and that the Saints defensive personnel have been dreadful, one fact remains:

If we had a safety that could have held Vernon Davis to....say.....150 yards, the Saints win a second Super Bowl or at least play in it.

Same for 10. We have a safety who can cover John FREAKING Carlson and not get suckered in by his flops, who knows what might have happened that year? They could have beaten the Bears and then get ANOTHER NFC Championship at home after the Falcons choked.

Didn't address the point at all. That's fine, I'm glad people are excited and I really hope RR can make the unit significantly better, but pass rushers will always be more valuable unless they're a scrub.

That's a bold prediction. Putting JJ against the field is weak but I'd take that bet.

Our LBs will too tired to rush the passer after the first quarter. Making all those tackles 5 yards from scrimmage wears on you.

JJ is NOT a proven NFL player either my friend.

If his head falls off do we still win?
