Our unsung hero on defense this year is Vonn Bell

He got a lot of love tonight, but he hasn’t gotten the recognition that he deserves from this board for his play this year. Check this out:
Weeks 1-10, Vonn Bell and Kurt Coleman were just about even in snaps played (with the exception of weeks 3 and 4). Since 10, Kurt Coleman has hardly had any snaps at all, averaging about 20 per game since week 10. That coincides with our defense’s most recent display of dominance over the past 4-5 weeks. During those games, Vonn Bell has been fantastic in both coverage and especially at the line of scrimmage.
PFF has Bell rated as the overall No. 31 safety in the league this season, making him a highly rated player for his position.
So it’s obvious to say that the only good from signing Coleman was that maybe it pushed Bell in training camp, because besides that, Coleman has been atrocious. We have our strong safety in Bell going forward. Not to mention that he was our game MVP tonight.

He really is improving throughout this season. Last year this board was constantly criticizing him.

Bell's development has been very impressive this year

really nice seeing how well Bell and PJ Williams seem to tackle in space. Having a Nickel Back and safety as sure tacklers in space really helps solidify a run D.

Yeah PJ had a very impressive tackle on a receiver in space that I thought for sure he'd miss (because of the angles). Not completely miss, but enough to where the receiver had a legit shot at the first down. Instead PJ stopped him cold with a standing wrap up arm tackle.
It was way more impressive than it should have been.

Bell keeps getting better. He hasn't developed at a fast pace, but he's at least developing.
Jmo, but I think he'll reach his ceiling at the end of next year or 2020. He's above average right now, but I think his ceiling is very nice. His ceiling probably isn't a Pro Bowler, but the tier under that imo. He & Marcus Williams are a damn solid duo already.
