Losing Bushrod turned out alright since we got Armstead. But not shoring up the C position the past couple of years and not ponying up for Nicks was the begibeginning of what we have now.

I think we got too full of ourselves with the whole "well just plug one of our diamonds in the rough were so good at finding " in.

The reason that always worked is because of Kromer. Him being gone is what is REALLY hurting our O-Line.

Goody was worse as year went on and I don't think anybody including Goody expected to play past this year.
As he wasn't replaced during the season from our bench I don't see a starting center coming from there its a FA or in the draft.

If we want a exceptional O-line I believe it includes others at guard and the center position.
If avg is safer then they go with giving Grubby and Evans a chance next year with a restructure.

Do you roll the dice or play it safe?

I lean towards going for a exceptional O-line as that seems to be when we are at our best.

Goodwin was a damn good center at one time...emphasis on 'was'...

If Saints don't pay him next season, he will retire...

We should have drafted a center in the last draft. 6 teams got starting centers in the last draft. We need to draft a center in 3rd round and an OT first round in this draft. Streif to backup and cut Harris. Restructure Evans and Drew and cut Grubbs to get an experienced OG like Iupati from SF. Then we will be in good shape!!!!!!

I would love to replace all 3; however, how easy is it to do so? That's the issue here. Upgrading 1 and even 2 OL spots is a task in and of itself, so going for all 3 might not be feasible. Plus the cohesiveness of the line would be relying on one above average vet at RT and one promising youngster at LT.

I think the best move is to determine which of the two between Grubbs and Evans is better both cap wise and talent, then cut the other one with the intent to replace/upgrade. Lelito will remain on the team since he is at least a good backup, and we can try to upgrade over him in FA or draft as well. Maybe it's possible to do all three, but I don't think it's very likely.

Agree.

Due to the poor draft last year and the fact they did not pick a center, I honestly think they try to make a move for a decent backup tackle in FA and go for a mid-pick Center. It makes no sense to use a pick on a backup. Armstead and Strief are good starters for us, but Harris was completely inept. It was no surprise the offense sputtered in games where Armstead was out for the game or pulled out due to injury.

I think 2/3 of their first picks will be defensive ones - probably a CB and a LB.

After the incohesive act the Saints' defense put on this season after losing Jenkins, Harper, and Greer... How bad do you think it would be to lose 2 or 3 O-linemen who have been together for years?

This is a very tough situation to be in because the Saints are in a "win now" situation with Drew Brees.

The "cut the 2 guards" idea is really tricky. Cutting Evans and Grubbs might save the Saints $9.6 Million, but it will also still cost the Saints $11 Million against the cap. Is $11 Million for guys that aren't even on the team worth it?

There will be a lot of restructuring this off-season.

I'm pretty sure Grubbs outplayed Evans this year, and the LT position (next to Grubbs) was a problem all year with an injured Armstead and the abysmal Harris. Not sure which Guard is better at this point, have to just trust the staff to be able to make that decision when it comes down to cutting time.

You still Dont draft a back up in the first round. Armstead is a beast and is the starter on the left side. Our interior lineman (Grudds,Goody & Jahri) were the problem this year not Strief & Armstead.

Its shows how poorly we drafted last year in that our draft needs of last year are the same this year.
