You want to honestly discuss a qb who has had the best statistical run in NFL history at the quarterback position over 6 year span with the hardware to back it up and ask a serious question of if he's elite? GFY and GFY.

that is exactly what I am asking- does breaking records trump winning games?

Contract was 2 years ago. And i wouldn't say it was considerably less. Tom's contract would have been for 90 mill over 5 years. He got 48.5 guaranteed in 4 years. Drew got 60 mill guaranteed over 5 years which is theoretically the same.

part of your answer right there, these things keep going up. Also no clue what Brady's motives are. I'm sure having a wife with a net worth of tens of millions of dollars (maybe hundreds) probably makes it a bit easier to go a little lower on negotiations as well.

37-11 is not winning games past 3 years?

Not really. It would just help if the complaints against him were justified. This post comes after they start 0-3. That's why it's not being taken seriously. Why didn't he post this last year? I would guess because he didn't have an opening. Now he does.

And it shouldn't be surprising that coming to a "Saints Board" and mouthing the QB is frowned upon.

right.. again I am not trolling on brees and think he is the perfect fit in new orleans..

that being said I simply was looking at overall body of work and used brady as something to compare to..

from the numbers side - brady smokes brees and it's not even close.. which made me wonder -

You do know Tom Brady is probably the 2nd best quarterback ever in the context of winning right?

Can't believe how long some of you had to wait to shite on Brees. Congratulations for hanging in there all of that time.

i do.. which was part of the reason behind starting this thread..

the question again - what justifies brees being the highest paid nfl player ever.. and rather than answers everyone gets defensive..

i am not slamming brees, kudos to him - he deserved a long term contract.. i just wondered if you were in negotations on brees behalf what would have been your argument for why he paid the most money in nfl history..

The next qb up in the prime always gets the most ever. Just wait for Rodgers and Eli when they come up. fricking Romo will get paid shite ton too.

I appreciate the way you're presenting your case.

And sometimes, I wonder if Brees was worth THAT MUCH.

But at the end of the day, you make sacrifices to win.
He's been so dramatically underpaid these last few years.
And he's going to keep us in SB contention for the foreseeable future (excluding the present year).

I think he's worth it.
And I don't need stats to fall back on.
Neither does he.

This.

Brady, and Manning, for that matter, will go down as two of the best ever. Rightfully so. Eli and Rivers were making more than both of these guys at one time. Then, their contract came up. Done deal.

Now, Eli will make as much, if not more than Drew and so will Rodgers. Rightfully so.

Anyone who questions the "eliteness" of Brees is stupid.

You do realize that the salary cap is set to increase in aafew years, which will drive up the price of qb contracts?

Tom Brady's contract was 2 years ago and isn't included in the salary cap increase. the next contract in the nfl is always higher than the last

Drew is missing his coach/friend/offensive playcaller. This is the story this year. It can't be ignored.

If Sean calls a play, it's most likely designed for Drew to audible off of if needed. It doesn't seem to me that he's comfortable at all. And I wouldn't be either if I were him. He's being rushed almost every other play, he's under a different OC. He's going to struggle. You can't get around it.

right.. yesterday myself and few friends were talking leaving the game talking about the fact it seems almost inevitable brees is going to get hurt - did the size of his contract make the team have to make cuts that have in the end left him more vulnerable? and if so - why as a GM would you invest so much and not insure your investment was protected?
