No chip by J. Hill on the T. Hill fumble?

On the play where Taysom Hill fumbled, Josh Hill was running to his left, actually went out of his way not to make contact with the LB (or DE?) who ultimately forced the fumble, and went screaming upfield as if in a pass route. If he even chips the defender, there is no fumble, but I don't have enough X and O knowledge to know what was supposed to happen. Any "coach" care to enlighten me? It seems to me that it would make no sense for J Hill not to block, or at least chip, a defender crashing down on a running play, and it did not appear to be a play where Taysom was thinking pass. Any explanation for the non-block?

Thats not how zone read works. You leave the end unblocked and read him. Hill made the wrong read. He often makes the wrong read. Makes you wonder that if he cant make that read, how can he possibly read a defense to play QB?
edit: I coached middle school football when I was in college and we could get our 5th, 6th, and 7th graders to run the zone read effectively. The fact that an NFL QB struggles making that read is pathetic.

The LB was the read on the play. If the LB bites on the handoff fake Taysom keeps if the LB stays with Taysom he should hand it off. Taysom made the wrong read

Yep. I believe we had about 2 yards for the first. If he doesn't pull the ball we are 1st and 10 instead of them.

It seems right now we don’t use our T.E. much. We on the other hand do not even cover the other teams T.E. The last 2 weeks we have been destroyed by that position. I couldn’t believe after last weeks performance we were just as bad this week.
It’s so rare when you see one of our guys just running free. Our guys have to break 2 or 3 tackles the second they catch the ball. Their guys could set up a picnic table and eat a freakin drumstick b4 a Saint shows up.

Waller had 2 catches for 9 yards against the Patriots. Just sayin.
