Nickell Robey-Coleman gets another fine for illegal hit

The playoffs became an expensive proposition for Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman.

He ended the postseason with significant fines in consecutive games for applying illegal hits to defenseless receivers.

The NFL has announced, via its in-house media conglomerate, that Robey-Coleman was fined $26,739 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Patriots running back Rex Burkhead early in Super Bowl LIII. Robey-Coleman drew a flag for the hit.

In the NFC title game, Robey-Coleman avoided, if you haven’t heard, a penalty for unnecessary roughness for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Saints receiver Tommylee Lewis.

Robey-Coleman also avoided a flag for pass interference, making the outcome one of the most controversial postseason finish in years, applying an asterisk to the Rams’ Super Bowl berth and causing much of New Orleans to shun the Super Bowl.

But Robey-Coleman was fined for the hit on Lewis, running the total price for a pair of illegal hits to more than $53,000.

Now imagine if he pulled out a cell phone after those hits. Minimum 3 game suspension

The difference? One happened against the Saints, the other against the Patriots. So one went flagged, the other did not

Same amount he was fined for the hit on TLL.

That fine should be cumulative for multiple offenses. And in cases like NRC, the player should be suspended uhtil he demonstrates the ability to properly fricking tackle a ball carrier.

Exactly. Brady gets an automatic first, milks the clock, and game winning kick. Circle jerk commences and his legacy is padded again.

If he continues to do it, then yes.. he should be suspended. Especially in back to back games..

And how are you going to enforce that? Send a league rep to the guy’s home to make him demonstrate how to tackle on a dummy?

I’m not arguing a potential suspension. I’m laughing at the thought of a guy being suspended unless and until he can demonstrate that he knows how to tackle properly. That’s silly and impractical.

I’d like to give him an illegal hit with a baseball bat.

Maybe a legal hit in the quarter near Canal Street with the bumper of my truck.

Clearly can't learn from the "shit, that burned" school of thought.

That call in the super bowl was horse shite. Can’t believe he was fined for that and was an even more agregious call on the field. Now what he did to the saints was out of line and unacceptable... seems like the nfl is trying to make up for it.

He hit a receiver who hadn’t had a chance to become a runner yet, with a helmet to helmet hit. What is “agregious” about that call? Seems textbook to me...?
