Missing the Point...

A lot of you (mostly those with "LSU" after your name) are looking at last night's victory in a negative light, and for that, I must question your football knowledge, or common sense in general.
The Defense gave up 477 yards. Yes, they did. They also gave up just 13 points. The game isn't won by how many yards you rack up, yardage is an overrated stat. Our defense prevented the Eagles to turn those yards into points, and THAT is a very valid point.
But the Eagles o-line sucks. Yes, the do, and our defense took full advantage of it. I think it would have been disturbing to see the defense struggle to get pressure on Vick knowing their o-line sucks. Vick had only been sacked 7 times one other time in his career, and that was when he was with the Falcons.
"7 sacks by the Saints defense is like 14 with a regular defense". frick you Steve Young. No other team has sacked Vick 7 times this season, even the Championship Giants.
If you choose to look at last night's win in a negative point of view, by all means, it's your right, but you're missing the much larger picture. The defense is improving, and I believe the Saints are beginning to hit their stride. They're not oblivious, they know they have a mountain to climb, but they are not out of contention yet, they have not given up, and get the Falcons on Sunday.
WHO DAT?!

The Eagles prevented themselves from getting points, just like they have all season.

They scored 4 points less than their season average.
In a game where Vick was fighting for his job.
That's no accident.

Wow, stereotype much? Why not just say nah nah boo boo?

This year our defense has struggled against even bad offenses. So winning one we are supposed to is encouraging. We shouldn't get too excited too fast though. The Eagles are basically a dumpster fire on both sides of the ball. I honestly felt really horrible for their coach during the game.

This game will tell us much more. I'm looking forward to it and hope our defense looks just as good against them. We've still got the 49ers, Giants on the road, and Falcons twice.
If we happen to get Payton back that'd help too. I really hope this is the start of an epic winning streak.

Annnnd here's where I quit reading.
Anyone that actually thinks one fanbase differs from another in any tangible way is an idiot. Every fanbase has their sunshine pumpers and debbie downers, you notice the ones you want to notice.

don't think we should foster any judgement of posters by their team support designation- even though sometimes such does seem to occur. This happens far more on game day than any other time.
A characteristic of posters on whole that I do find more common with fans who are more college based than pro is sort of a shizophrenic reaction. That is, with a win there is euphoria and talk of playoffs. With a loss it becomes needing to clean house and get rid of people.
My perspective is that a NCAA season is like hurdles- one slip or trip and you are usually out of it. The NFL is like a marathon- pacesetters can win it all but the champ comes from back in the pack at the finish just as often. The Saints-Colts SB was the first time two #1 seeds were in the SB in over a decade. NYG last year losing to the Saints 24-49 in the midst of a 4 game losing streak were the perfect example of the axiom "just get into the dance".

All I'm saying is that the majority of negative posts are those with an LSU behind their name. That's all I'm saying.

The thing with giving up so many yards is that you give people opportunities to score. I believe Philly was 0-5 in the red zone. Even a 2-5 and it could have been a totally different ball game. Both teams had two turnovers. If they are going to give up that many yards they at least need to win the turnover battle.

Normally, I'd agree with you.
But LSU fans are perhaps the worst in the world.
I should know.
I am one.

If this, if that. If Rita had a dick, she'd be a man. The fact that the saints held them to 0-5 is flat out ballin'. frick the if's.

Why do I have to look at it in a positive or negative light? Can't I just take it for what it was? Our defense has been horrendous all season. We played a really bad team and played well which I'm glad we did.
I hate how everyone overreacts (good and bad) based on one game. Last week we needed to fire our DC and cut all our players. This week we'be turned the corner and are only 2 games (and 6 teams worth) out of the playoffs and eventual Super Bowl run even though we are 3-5.
Perspective people! Keep it all in perspective.

The real thing is that we'd need to go 7-1 the rest of the way for a shot at the playoffs against a brutal schedule. They gashed us all night but just couldn't get it done in the red zone. The running game being back was encouraging but this team isn't making the playoffs.
