Either way it's highly unlikely someone is able to watch all of a team's pro day (unless you are with the nfl or college).
The Senior Bowl is the closest experience i've had. Year-after-year of catching 3 practice sessions at best.
the whole format now is different now.
the way they practice.
the media attention it gets.
the players that participate.
players will dip out on events like the Senior Bowl now for injury concerns/draft status comfort.
they have already.
you even see players dipping out on bowl games.
not that it really matters or anything but in a few years it might be the thing to do.

The last QB to come out with that kind of pocket awareness and elusiveness was Russell Wilson and the Saints wanted him too.
Mahomes, II checks off a lot of boxes that you would want in a high draft pick at QB. He has decent size, good awareness and mobility. He has a big arm. He is an accurate passer that improved every year. He started 2 plus seasons, so he has a good amount of starts and snaps. Finally, what might be putting the Saints over the top is his bloodlines. His dad played professional baseball. It's not the NFL but being exposed to MLB growing up will help him transition to the NFL lifestyle.
He just needs some time to learn how to be an NFL QB. To have him learn under Brees for 2 or 3 seasons would be perfect for him and for the future of the Saints.
If we get a chance to take him at 32, he will be a Saint.

I wouldn't mind a Dallas/Prescott type find where he becomes the heir sooner rather than later

I would not pick a QB in this draft......unless it's the 6th or 7th round picks.
We need those 5 picks in the first 3 rounds to find starters.
Draft QB very high next year...... we already wasted a 3rd round pick on that Grayson QB and he's on the Damn Practice Squad !!!!!!

We supposedly had our sights set on Garoppolo in 2014. New England beat us to him. That wouldn't have been a wasted pick. When we took Grayson in the 3rd round of 2015, everyone was fine with it based on his potential. Most mid round QBs don't pan out though. He has had a chance and we need to have a long term replacement for Brees.
Whose to say that we are in a position next year to draft a player that fits our system and has the intangibles that we are seeking? The best path to get back to a Super Bowl is to get there with a homegrown QB and not by signing a FA or trading for one. If the right player is there, you pick him. The value at #32 for the 5th year on the contract is very high. I would not be surprised if that pick goes to a QB.
